What freedom? It might not be obvious, but most of the game is pretty much run on rails. Everything is gated by the MSQ. Everything is gated by level. No I am not doing roulettes as they take too much time to que up as a dps. I am not doing hunting logs and challenges since they bore me to no end. These things are side things. Things you do when you don't want to quest around or when you are done at max level in my opinion. And the whole thing about levequests and the other side things it is just too much to stay on top of as a new player. I kind of feel that you should not be given a level wall and restriction so that you can do the other things and feel mandatory. The whole freedom is gone at that point.
You are supposed to do a little bit of everything as you level up, not just focus on the main story.
Not to discourage you, if your getting annoyed at this point I may have to be the bearer of bad news. You will be annoyed a lot, specially that you will need cross classes. Some parties are really picky depending on your main. SE was talking about jump potions, still not available in US. That can help skip early leveling. For now you have a lot of XP grinding, later on will be tomes, and if your thinking of relics :/ Sorry. Make friends with tanks or do shouts, mentors like myself love new people for the bonus to tomes.

Awe, /petpet. Unfortunately that's just the way the game works. We all went through it too. XD I think it was worse for us, though.Didn't MSQs get an EXP boost? Or is that still coming? Roulettes really don't take that long (15 min wait for DPS during busy times), just have some patience and enjoy the opportunity to meet and play with new people. No I am not doing roulettes as they take too much time to que up as a dps. Or I guess you can play something else, but you'll miss out on a great game, and any other MMO will be just as grindy unless it's one of those ones with a pay-to-jump option or pay-for-more-exp.
Also just a side note: but there needs to be a level wall lol, I don't see how they might remove it, do you? I most certainly would not enjoy getting into Haukke Manor (a level 28 dungeon), and get stuck with someone who is level 18 because all they've done is power through the main story quests LOL.

There are a couple of things to do for grinding:
- Palace of the Dead
- Hunting Log
- Leves
- Unlock Chocobro @ Tranquil lvl 30 quest
- Quest at Tranquil
- Quest at Camp Bronze Lake
- Quest at Costa del Sol
- Quest at Lil Ala Mhigo
- Fates in Costa del Sol
- Duty Finder Roulette, while leveling fishing/or fate in Costa Del Sol
- As you get higher you'll be getting beast tribe quests - grind those. (45s) so dont worry about that now.
- Guildhests, do them all for the first time bonus
as main brd should be easy enough to do, but if you haven't unlock chocobro for healing companion.

Thank you all for the replies. I guess that I should prepare for one hell of a ride if I would like to see the main story come to an end and end my curioucity. Thank you all.
I'll reiterate just one point, although a lot of good exp ideas were mentioned above. Even if it feels like the que is too long, try to do your leveling roulette a little more. The Shiva server is on the European data center, so you might get faster ques if you change your settings to allow for matches from other languages(i dont know if youve already done/considered this). Are you in the novice network, a friendly FC, or any other social LSs? Ask for help to speed up the que. A healer friend should get you down to just a couple mins at most, a tank friend should get you to almost instant. The leveling roulette gives you a random 4 man dungeon or trial from those youve already unlocked(such that the lowest level person in the group sets the pool of available instances), and throws a massive exp bonus your way once per day for finishing(a big enough bonus that it doesnt matter what level instance you wind up in). In my experience, the total reward was about a level per day worth of experience(or close to it). At the very least, its worth considering.
The only time I was under level was back in 2013. I was leveling WHM and BRD at the same time. I had to rely on FATEs and re-running dungeons until my Level got caught up.

Sounds about right for a new player to hit that lv wall like that unless he has a few items to boost the exp gained like the exp ring from the hall of novice and the friendship circlet from the invite a friend thing but even with those you'll still hit that lv wall at some point.
Doing the daily levelling roulette for that big exp bonus at the end of the dungeon helps. I would also suggest doing Palace of the dead, if your skills don't show in your skills menu you can set your mouse over the unknown skill to get the info about what it does and then you can set it in the right spot for use. I've levelled my nin from lv 15 to lv 54 now though Potd mostly and I had started levelling it sometime this just past weekend. If you focus on one job for levelling and not do anything on the side you'll be able to level it faster than I've levelled my nin so far.
...Until you hit the mid/late 40s and then it's the worst level walls yet...
