To be fair, Ninjas are just a small step away from being spellblades in this game with how mudras work.
Also the backdrop of the Void Ark series was the Mage War from the Fifth Astral Era (iirc?)

Most of the caster Jobs currently existing in game have origins in now dead civilisations. I think WHM is the only one still with a existing tradition in a current nation. All the others are ones we are pretty much bringing back from the dead. Short of a time travel expansion or one focused on Gridania I am not sure exactly how you would 'highlight' any of the existing caster Jobs.
That said its not really a big deal. Dragoon was the star Job in HW and beyond us seeing a lot of them around it didn't hugely impact the story beyond there being a few extra lines if you played a Dragoon.
Its worth pointing out that every Job uses Aether in their combat techniques so loosely magic is tied to every Job. This is why I use the term caster rather than magic.
My guess is Alisae is going with them and she is Red Mage. They don't need to name old characters."Yoshida named two new story characters for Stormblood: the samurai Gosetsu and his ninja companion Yugiri"

I'm curious as to why this even matters. Especially since the OP seems to have forgotten the Scions, all of whom are magic-users save for two of them.
Sorry, but that's not true at all.

There are a ridiculous number of highly visible magic-based characters in the story.
Not to mention Gandelf (Louisoix) who is probably one of the most well known characters in the game and lore. Definitely far more famous than the WoL is right now.
The Old Sharlayan for 5.0 will introduce Time Mage![]()
I should have been more specific; how many of those characters can you say fall into any of the magic jobs we have available to us? (Black Mage, White Mage, Summoner, Scholar, Astrologian)
None of them. It would benefit class identity if we had characters in the story that represented these jobs in the same vein as a Yugiri, Estinien, Thancred, and now the new characters being added in Stormblood.
