    My Curious Situation

Hello. So i'm technically not a new player having played a few characters in the past 3 years. I've had year breaks at a time.
I created a new character last december and i'm going to finally start my long game, i mean getting all the trophies on the PS4 at least.

Now, this is why i created this thread: Is it bad mojo for trying to solo as much as possible in the 2.0 or can it be done excluding the mandatory dungeons?
My reason for this is every time i tried progressing in the olden days with a group, my anxiety had a funny habit of getting me into a bind and i got scared of the responsibility and my skills weren't exactly above average.
So this time i'll try to solo as much as possible, and i think the Novice Network will help me do it without joining a Free Company. I might join one after 2.0 but as it stands now, i just feel like goofing around and doing it my way.

I love this game and want to take it on as my go-to multiplayer game.

    Welcome back!

Don't feel bad about soloing - the game is specifically designed to allow you to solo most of the content as it is (you'll be gaining exp just by completing quests after all), save for dungeons. And the pre expansion dungeons can now all be entered solo or 'undermanned' anyway too (although I would not recommend trying to solo a dungeon that is around your current level! You would definitely need at least one other person at a much higher level to help you). But it seems you;'re taking the game nice and slowly which is actually what I recommend - rushing through the game will just usually burn you out and make you lose interest, so it's nice to stop and smell the roses accordingly. The journey is just as important as the destination after all.

Most importantly, have fun! This game is whatever you make of it, so there is always something you can do, it's entirely up to you.

That helped thank you very much. I feel confident now to solo at least for 2.0.

On my datacentre people in a similar position often put up party finder ads when they need to clear something with a group. Like they might include a description along the lines of 'I'm not that great of tanking, but would anyone like to come with me on my first run of Sastasha? We'll be taking it slowly and relaxedly!' so everyone knows what to expect. To be honest I join these groups deliberately to help out as I find that kind of play much more fun than serious runs organised by impatient people. It's a lot less stressful for all involved, and now they have cross-server party finder you shouldn't have much trouble filling a group.

I deal with a bit of dungeon anxiety myself, and the best way to fight that I think is to make friends and improve your skills. For skills, read over class guides, practice outside of the dungeons, and watch videos on dungeons before going into them the first time. If you do that much, you'll most likely be well above average for party finder. Going in with friends is even better, as they will be more patient than strangers and give advice when you're having trouble with something, particularly if it's for a job they're familiar with.

If you outright ask in novice network for some help working your dungeon skillset, most likely people will help by bringing you along for a dungeon run and giving advice. There are a lot of good mentors out there. More than that though, the novice network is great place to make some friends. While you're in it, just join in with the idle chatter and try to meet people. Eventually you want to join a few social linkshells, which act like low commitment FCs in a way. Asking around novice network for social linkshells to join can probably get you a few invites, but people usually don't want to invite strangers, so take the time to meet them first.

Other than the required dungeons and trials for progression, the game allows a solo player to do fairly well. However, it's far quicker to reap rewards working as a group, and group play is the big reason for playing an MMO anyway!

Of course, if you're really dead-set on avoiding dungeons, you could just farm lore/scripture/wolf in frontlines pvp, where you can be terrible and nobody will really notice. I'm guilty! I'm absolutely terrible at pvp since I barely know what I'm doing there, but nobody has even noticed. I wouldn't even be there, but I want wolf marks for things.

    First of, Welcome back ^^.

By own means going solo is perfectly normal. I actually decided to go as far as start my own FC because I hate having restricts on content and depend on other people to get certain content. As of recently I started opening my doors to people who are in your situation and only want to kick back and do things on their own. By the way not trying to recruit you just as an example.

There a lot of benefits going solo. While s having an FC to join can be a bit more social I just join their LS network. Feel free to do it in your own way. Down the line I would, as new players at least get the petition for FC done in case you go that route. Never hurts, extra storage space, workshop, and airship access. Make friends and do old content. Even now I sometimes rotate roles to help people. I wish you luck and if your even in Balmung look me up I like doing old content and need to do some as well :P

Certain content is mandatory to do is groups but there is a large portion you can solo. It is nice as you do not feel pressured to level up quickly and can do stuff at your own pace and just enjoy the overall journey.
    Also welcome back
