Weren't they like just a group of five Au Ra? They were unknown to the city states (with the exception of maybe Sharlayan, but they left in a hurry lol) and never settled in Eorzea. The first time Ul'dah, Gridania and Limsa Lominsa came into contact with Au Ra was after the Doman exodus. So my point is still valid.

Yes, in that cutscene she is saying something akin to that.
But I've rewatched a previous cutscene (the one where Alphinaud promises Yugiri to let hear speak in front of the Ul'dahn authorities) and... well, just read the dialogue:

Alphinaud: Lady Yugiri, forgive me for observing, but...your choice of attire seems like to evoke feelings of mistrust.

Yugiri: Men are wont to fear the unfamiliar. We know this from experience. We seek only to spare the people of Ul'dah unnecessary disquiet.

While this does not explicitly mean that there were no Au Ra in Eorzea prior to the Doman exodus, it tells us that Au Ra were so rare that merely revealing their faces would have been enough to cause unrest, or at least commotion in the city states.
They seem to have been practically non-existent, which was my initial point.

Actually, there were Au Ra, but they were rare.
Encyclopaedia Eorzea, page 90: "Hailing from the Far Eastern continent of Othard, the Au Ra were a rare sight in Eorzea until most recently, when increasing unrest in their homeland forced a not-insignificant number of their people to journey west in search of asylum."

So, while there weren't many here, they weren't unknown to Eorzeans.

Please also read my edited post above. Yugiri had to hide her face to not cause commotion. If they weren't unknown to Eorzea, why did she have to hide it?
The dialogue suggests that it's not because she's suspecting Garlean spies or something in Ul'dah, but because most Eorzeans are likely to have never seen an Au Ra in their entire lives.

It's all so vague lol

I'm sure the Sharlayans knew about Au Ra, but your everyday Eorzean certainly did not imo.
Every other NPC just treats you like a common sight, which contradicts with the Au Ra backstory.
I know it would've been too impractical to alter every piece of NPC dialogue for Au Ra players, but it still bugs me. It kinda ruins the continuity (which is why I will stay Highlander ).
