Level 60 would still be the maximum you could go to, but at least you'd get some experience before going into the new leveling content.
That would entirely defeat the purpose. The main purpose is to allow a new player to catch up to their friends quickly.

Also, the idea that someone would need to "train" by leveling "manually" has been debunked dozens of times over in this thread. People can, as of right now, completely avoid any sort of group content and get to cap solely through FATEs and other solo content.

I'm not at all opposed to a leveling potion on grounds of people not knowing how to play the class at endgame. Plenty of people already do that.

Just annoyed when a game dev puts a value on the time I spend playing. Just spent the last 2 weeks getting an archer from 1 to level 60 bard as my second class. Imagine all that grinding amount to 'just give us $20 and we'll do it for you instantly'.

Granted it's a minor issue since I got plenty of potsherds and a nice weapon to go with, but still, a tinge of envy that money can have you skip the grind.

They should allow it just to spite you all who'll swear you'll quit if they do, yet come back in a few days anyway.

man i feel this game is going to keep copying WoW and that's going to suck a lot. I'm hoping i'm wrong, but they've announced a lot of things that seem like they're trying to be like WoW and I can't stand that game.

They have these (Real Money Purchases on the Store, plus one as a bonus for buying the latest expansion) in World of Warcraft.

I does provide instant access to all the new stuff, but also instantly downgrades all the old areas - which I think on the whole was a negative result. I now have several characters over level 100, able to visit the new zone, but I don't feel like visiting any of the old areas any more, which seems a shame.

I think it would be better not to introduce that here. They didn't with HW, so they don't need to do so for SB.

Incidentaly, what next to copy WOW - a "FFXIV Token" - giving loads of Gil once purchased with real money? The RMTs are a real pain, but this is not really the answer. They have the same in EVE Online as well.

I assume the invitations to join an oddly-named pvp group are actually RMTs as well? Fortunately only on Gridania. Still a nuisance.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news; however, before A Realm Reborn even launched, Yoshi-P specifically cited World of WarCraft as an example of the formula he was using to design Final Fantasy XIV.

This is very likely the reason you're noticing a lot of similarities.

leveling potion should exist simply because of this, dungeons are nothing they are the game at its most basic level once you do them enough times they are just simple. The person using a jump potion will have the same chance of doing content as someone else running it the hard way simply because of how the community in this game is. Will the jump potion player get to do any of the hard content in the game I doubt it, when storm blood hits alex will be dead, coil will be dead, all extreme primals will be ran unsync , and if its sync the amount of time spent on doing old content sync will be very limited. So its really zero point to go through leveling to not even be able to do the content thats worth doing at the levels your going through. So the best thing to do is just skip it all instead of finding out that you have to skip it anyway.

Thank you I was gonna say this. People need to stop thinking that level potion will stop that person learning their job.

Like you said levelling doesn't ether it all depends on the individual player and how much they really want to truly learn their job.

People need to stop complaining about the level skipping potion and move on.

I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment, but FFXIV is all but handing out a leveling potion as is, anyway. Leveling is far too easy, and doesn't teach you how to properly play your job in and of itself.

Were this FFXI, I'd agree. Leveling to 75 there (pre-Abyssea) really taught you how to play, and if you were a moron, parties would quickly stop inviting you as word of mouth got around. In that scenario, a leveling potion would be an absurdly bad idea. In FFXIV, it's more just distasteful. I don't like the idea of having a pay-money-to-win button. But I don't think it's going to do much to worsen the skills of an already-weak pool of players at level cap.
