And this right here is the reason this behavior isn't discouraged enough. "Its ok because we cleared it"
Clearing or not isn't the issue. I am basically saying this is badly designed that a character can use a level 50 weapon in level 60 content which extremely gimps their effectiveness at their job.
If he had on at least a level 60 weapon (of any item level) you wouldn't see me bothering to post this thread (I might be miffed if it was below i200 but w/e I wouldn't waste my breath), but level 50 weapon in level 60 content? I don't see how this can be defended in any way shape or form.
I understand entry level content that you do right after hitting 60 you may not have a level 60 weapon, but Alex Creator is not entry level. It is the third raid after over a year of content.
Just an FYI if a tank did what this BLM did, he would be completely unable to do his main role of holding hate. I'd say try it next time you do a level 60 dungeon or raid and try to main tank and watch how the rest of the party dies around you because you can't hold hate with an i110 weapon, but I would feel bad if someone wasted other player's time like that.
We shouldn't have double standards. Tank, healer, or DPS, all should be expected to do their main role and equipping a level 50 weapon (in non-entry level) level 60 content is not doing their main role...you can buy a level 60 ilevel 150 weapon for 20-30k gil btw
I understand he might have unintentionally done this, but that is why I am saying the game should not let you do this even by accident.
I know how average numbers work. Unfortunately SE uses average item level but uses equal weights for all slots of gear when in fact they are completely unequal and some pieces are worth more than others. Weapon being #1 most important piece btw.
Like I said above yeah he maybe did this by accident. Which, yeah, people make mistakes so that isn't the main issue. I am saying the game shouldn't let this happen.
Also you can swap weapons in an instance as long as you are out of combat, but only weapons of the job you are playing. So a BLM can switch between any BLM job weapons he has outside of combat.

ACTUALLY.... I did this accidentally while I was working on my Bravura Novus last year. A dps pulled after I ready checked but before I swapped my weapon out. I was still able to take Sophia back and hold hate the entire fight. So, it's possible for a competent and otherwise well geared tank to hold threat.
Is it optimal and should it be done? Absolutely not. But it is possible.
By that definition, if I /sit at the beginning of the raid and my group seven-mans it. It's perfectly acceptable, after all, they still cleared, right?
It requires AVERAGE ilvl not actual. And at the end of the day who cares that is the easiest of the Alex runs let the guy have his fun. As long as it did not hinder your enjoyment or cause a wipe let them be.
It would be nice if there were two checks in place prior to queuing for content:
(1) Average ilvl necessary to join the instance
(2) Minimal ilvl weapon necessary to join the instance - doesn't have to be anything insanely high but should be high enough to prevent things like 2.X era weapons from being queued up with.
Not really a perfect solution as it's possible to change equipment after you enter but it's something. I have seem some pretty terrible dungeon clear times due to lack of good weapons in 4-man DFs.
It is very possible that they were doing the level 50 relic quest and forgot they had it on. Anyone else also could have noticed beforehand and pointed it out to them as well. Unfortunate that it was caught after the run was done, but you cleared and they don't appear to have weakness, so they knew how to do the fight to some extent. The weapon could have been unintentional. If it was though then... :/

The system doesnt check for all pieces. It takes the average. The player could of instead had a lvl 36 ring and everything else high ilvl and still permitted to get in the instance. Not sure if this issue will get addressed. But from a dps standpoint say if they were in a dungeon it would for sure show up as an issue.
