Well, the map does feature the same set of sponsorship icons as on the Eorzean map we all know. I wouldn't expect the team to include that unless it was from the same cartographic expedition.

I think it's supposed to be "Corvos" for The Anchorite one, and "Dorvos" for the Narrow one, instead of Gorvos for both....
You can compared it to the C, D, and G in Coerthas, Mor Dhona, and Gridania respectively...

Also, i think you're correct on placing Rabanastre there on southern Othard, cause Koji Fox kind of hinted that Rabanastre is in Othard and that's the only area in Othard still covered in clouds...
For Dalmasca, it should be around the land bridge connecting Ilsabard and Othard, cause, again, that's what Koji Fox hinted lol...

So when I was looking at the map I saw a line through the vertical stroke of the C, which made it look more like a capital G, but yeah looking at it now both letters could be explained by map texture/drawings behind the words. Them damn waves again. Unfortunately won't be 100% on translations until we get the physical map or the world map in 4.0. The Narrows definitely does resemble a D but I find it really really jarring that one place name is Corvos and the area adjacent is Dorvos? It'd be like seeing the Doerthas River running through Coerthas? It could be right, but it's gonna set off my ocd until I get confirmation. Lol

hmmm are we really going to be able to explore the whole eastern continent? That is a ton of land. Looking at the landscape though it seems really silly for garlemald to even attempt/be able to siege Doma...except by Sea, So many Mountain ranges including that fault line would definitely keep western invaders out...

Remember Garlemald has airships. Of course the Empire never had to actually fight a battle in the sky until the Battle of Silver Tear. I imagine that's one of the reasons they lost so badly there. The Garlean Empire didn't know how to fight a battle in the sky.

So true, it's why they want so badly to learn allagan technology xD
It's also why they avoided the whole dragonsong war, they're weak to dragons.

To be fair, the Garleans started their invasion into Othard in 1528, but Doma didn't fall until 1552, twenty-four years later. So either the Othardian primal really caused the Imperial momentum to falter or Doma and Rabanastre really held out against the Empire for a long time.

Has anyone ever done a scaled measurement of the map as it stands? something like a conversion to km^2 like people do for every single other big game out there? considering the expansion of doma is supposedly going to double the playable landmass, I'm intrigued what we have and what we'll be going to.

If you really wanted to, perhaps it'd be possible to use Three-Malm bend as a unit of measurement and go outwards from there to find the approximate measure of Vylbrand, then Eorzea, and so forth.

Looking at the new addition to the map and comparing it to the old one i will make the assumption to say that the person to cartographed (grammar?) Aldernard was not the same person to chart Othard nor Ilsabard. The old map was crumbling near Ilsabard which may have been the original authors way of implying that you probably shouldnt go there. The new one is just foggy to imply that theres something there, but we dont know what.

The style in which the new area is drawn in is also much more colourful and detailed. Aldenard is one unicoloured lump of landmass while Othard is colourful and detailed throughout.

I will make the claim, that whoever drew the original map did not add Othard. At least not in the first draft. This would also help us understand why we first got this version now as opposed to simply having a perfect map from the start. The Original map is common in- universe and Othard is often described as being faraway and mystic in nature.
