Questions regarding permits...

I was recently fortunate enough to catch a nice little cottage in Mist (right on the beach!). While I am still decorating, I was a bit in the dark regarding the npc permits.

Specifically I was wondering what the difference is between say a Material Supplier Permit and a Material Supplier Permit A-2. Does the A-2 sell more things or is it merely a cosmetic difference?

Another question I had was, while I know that Retainers can be placed outside your house, can the vendors also be placed in the yard or are they restricted to the interior of the house?

1. The difference is purely cosmetic. They sell the same goods.
2. Retainers can only be placed outside while the other npcs are restricted to indoors.
