    Red Mage vs Samurai

With these two dps jobs coming in the expansion I wanted to make a topic to build discussion/speculation on these two jobs. I'll keep it simple.

Since we are getting two dps jobs which one are you looking forward to the most or leveling first? Will you be maining it? Why?

I will admit normally I would choose samurai over red mage due to always wanting to be a sword dps, but I find that the red mage will be very similar to its spell fencer incarnation. It is my favorite kind of red mage. The spell fencer basically does what the video clip that we got shows. It cast chain spells and finishes up my going into close range and striking with melee. When it comes to SAM it sounds like it will be a builder spender job which is a play style I like a lot. (I use to play shaman in WoW and Mesmer in gw2)

I'm siding with the Red Mage at this time. For me it will be a tough choice to make and who knows maybe as time goes along I may change sides!

Not really much to go by from just those vids. I like aesthetic of both but that's it.

I will decide when I get to try it.

I'm just hoping one of them relies on a gimmick besides positionals.

You can count red mage out.
    Final Fantasy XIVEdit

Main article: Red Mage (Final Fantasy XIV)
Red Mage was announced as a new job coming with the second expansion, Stormblood. They are a DPS class armed with rapiers and a magicked crystal medium. The job is described as "a hybrid ranged/melee style achieved via high-speed positioning."

Red mage, I mean I'll level smn/sch to lv 70 first because of tomes purposes then I'll lv red to 70 then every class I have at 60 to 70. I originally chooses smn because it was the closest thing at the time to red mage so now there's actually red mage, im gonna main the heck out of it

Not sure if I'll be maining but I'm more interested in red mage because it's primarily range. Melee dps isn't for me.

Of the two, I'm definitely looking forward to Samurai the most; melee range, especially DPS, is my preferred playstyle. Additionally, I've always had a love for two-handed swords of all types, so them declaring Samurai a DPS is just about perfect, far as I'm concerned.

As to making it my main? That'll have to wait until I can see how the job actually plays.

Still, the anticipation is killing me!

In my opinion, anyone who chooses their new main based on a few seconds of aestetics alone is a bit foolish.
At least wait until we have more actual info about the gameplay and skillsets of both jobs..?

    As for leveling..not sure.
I dislike redmage in general, but really like magic dps..
I hate melees but really like Samurai in general..

we probably wont know until game is released, unless skill-sets are leaked early in some patch; or if they do like with nin, and show skill rotations and such, in game engine.
also some ppl just love RDM and/or SAM and will main them for that alone, unless they turn out to be some major disappointment.
also lv cap will go up to 70, so all jobs will get new skills, so might as well wait and see what gameplay and skill sets are for each job

I'll go SAM first between these 2, but RDM looks kind of fun too.
Not sure what job to lv 1st though...some current job, or just go with SAM first.
Reading these comments i realized i could go as SCH or SMN and lv both at the same time, so can have a DPS and a healer to 70 at same time, so that's a good option too; then level rdm to gear up both RDM and SMN.
    hmhm so many options QQ
