Red Mage vs Samurai

Was originally planning to go in Stormblood maining Monk, since it looked to be a major focus much like how the Dragoon was at the center of Heavensward.
But now with the revelation of Othard being a major part of Stormblood too, not just Gyr Albania, I'm not too sure.

I only had a couple classes all leveled and geared by the time that A Realm Reborn was at its finish, but come the climax of Heavensward I've got everything leveled and geared, so really not sure how I'll proceed going into the new expansion. Yoshi-P's comments were to the effect that Stormblood will be evenly split between Gyr Albania and Othard, so tentatively I think that I'll level and main Monk and Samurai simultaneously; using each when in the respective locales of their origin. Then I'll level Red Mage alongside everything else on the side.

yeah i think id do smn/blm through story then hit red mage after getting story finished, like with your monk/samurai chances are ill have some time to get gear for it while levelling it to 70 with that fat bonus from having a previous job levelled up already. mnk through should get you gear for your sam as well so its a win win

My favorite style is melee/magic hybrid, so I'll be going for Red Mage. I doubt it will pull me away from Ninja as my main job, though.

Samurai doesn't look that interesting to me, personally. It looks kinda basic, although it very well could be awesome we just don't have much info on it yet.

yeah, pretty sure everyone will be glamouring the gear to be the ff11 event stuff from last year

Would depend on how they change things around for the battle system. I know it won't be anything drastic, still with them cutting unused actions and combining similar ones and just focusing on a different road of how combat works will let me know.

It is just me personally, but I for some reason am not a huge fan of the way the DoT or Dmg increase skills are used for most classes such as Fracture, Mutilate, Hot Shot or Heavy Thrust. I doubt they'll add that damage to other abilities, but maybe they'll not have that on the new jobs and have those things apply in different ways.

Along side that, would depend on how much flexibility there is with jobs. Currently I like being able to give E4E on Tanks, or time a Virus..throw out a Raise. In this game that's a lot

Hard to say until we get to see (if at all) any more actual gameplay videos that show off some more skills and/or how they work together. I will say, though, that I'm pretty excited for Red Mage and will certainly try to practice with it quite a bit during the early access days. I main AST right now and have been learning SMN because I don't want to DPS as a BRD/MCH anymore since returning to the game after a year-long break, and I'd love to have a dedicated DPS job again.

So, definitely RDM over SAM, but I'm sure I'll try both and see which I like better.

I'm thinking of replacing my main DPS from BRD to Red Mage, however I will be lvling both for the heck of it. AST or BRD will be the first to 70 though. Will wait to see Red Mage in game before making my final decision on maining it. I just like magic and range more than melee.

Both of them, although Samurai first since it uses Monk gear and that's what I'm playing right now.

From the day of character creation I knew I would atleast attempt to be a good Red Mage when it came out, been waiting for it for quite some time now. I like how it looks so far but of course we still have much more to see.

Samurai does interest me though...and for some reason I want the majority of any positionals they have to end up being from the front, as well as some skills that work well with parry (maybe even a defensive skill that lets them split damage between them and atleast one other player, most likely the tank.)
