You are completely right here with the opted solution solution. To answer your potential first question, assuming it wasn't rethoric, the game imho doesn't make it clear at all how it works. No tutorial, tooltip or proper warning/safeguard designed. I would argue the use of the word 'rank' even stimulates thinking of the system as being a hierarchy. Of course a bit below is this one and perhaps this is the one the localisation went for:

Perhaps if they had called it something like 'role' or 'job' some of the initial confusion would have been avoided, though I still suspect some would have made the mistake purely because of the abundance of other games that do use a hierarchy in their guild systems. I would just say the process of proper encoding on dev side and decoding on players' side is a bit out of whack here. It's even more sad some *ahum* twats decide to abuse it and inflict so much harm on people like the OP. It's a very unfortunate cascading failure that took place here, starting with something so simple.

100% false. Everything in the current system is left in the hands of the players, and the players are responsible for how they use that system. The only way SE could be held liable for any of this would be if their employees took a direct hand in any of it, which is very clearly something they are trying to avoid.

They did have a hand in it. They designed it that way.

I dont know if the person sueing would win or not. That depends on the laywer. I'm just saying I know someone would attempt to sue for property lost due to faulty design

We've got roughly 31mil in the chest preparing to move house in SB. It's just one of several reasons. None of them excusing theft though. :P

I learned that the hard way as well... now there is just 1 other player in my fc with all the rights I have -> except the right to change ranks/rights itself and the one to delete/remove furniture - those two will NEVER ever been given out again. it's so sad... that people you think you know are acting like this after a long time you spent together... In the end i said to myself "you won't share your creditcard informations or flatkey to your colleagues and sportteammates as well in rl will ya?" so no reason to share it with every fc-member - I just got picky if it comes to "trust" in mmos... .___.

Happens man. And trust me you were out of luck, cause gils don't really mean that much in this game but when you look back at the MMORPG flagships, being scammed like this was really a hard hit.
If you like the game keep going, it's just glamour anyway. Also learning it the hard way is the way for the future.
