Well thats not true. I always played Tank until Stormblood where they decided it would be a good idea to implement Samurai as a DPS. Now im a DPS Main and ill Stay DPS Main until they give us High Judge as a Tank-Job.
Actually, in the case of Heavensward when they did bring in a new tank and healer, that was the case for maybe a month before queue times went back to normal. What had been more noticeable was that the vast majority of Dark Knight and Astrologian mains in Heavensward were already tank and healer mains before those jobs were released.

But I do agree that dungeons should be balanced around 5 party members with 3 DPS.
This is another thing that just won't happen because their argument that the tradition of Final Fantasy games having predominantly had a party of four will always outweigh any opinion players will have on the matter. However, I do agree that changes should be made to tanks and healers to make them feel more rewarding, but I also feel that it should come with making mobs and bosses deal more damage to non-tanks.

On one hand for DPS queues it would be nice, on the other hand healers have to put in more work to heal that extra man. I'm not against the idea and personally would like it, but looking at healers perspective some might find it overwhelming to keep 6 or even 5 people alive.

I'd definitely be down for a "fill" option as I play multiple roles and it would alleviate some of the queue times when party only needs specific role.

1 or even 2 extra players wont be much of a burden. The playbook is still the same, Regen the tank, Medica 2 the group, dots and stone spam. Healing in this game is a snooze fest now and even during large pulls, the healing needs in this game are minimal. Now if they would make healing like it is in World of Warcraft, then yea, healers would be healers again.

Most modern MMOs today have gotten rid of it. Even MMOs that used to have the trinity. It's an outdated and archaic system that only leads to what we have now. Super long queues for DPS and people clamoring for solutions.

The solution is to design new dungeons that can be run with any jobs and classes. It's not as dramatic as you're making it sound.
No, other game simply resort to DPS burns, and when everyone can do damage, then there is no tank or healer, you just rely on consumables. Your wallet size ends up being the only obstacle to overcoming content.

This game has the Tank-Healer-DPS system because the dungeon crawls are designed to not be beaten by consumables, and are thus level synced so that the difficulty is stable throughout the game's life. I will not say the trinity is better because I honestly did prefer Mabinogi's class-less system before they went and ruined it with classes.

A game has to be designed from the beginning to have, or not have these things. FFXIV originally did NOT have these. Read the original skill lists for for 1.00.

The problem is not that the roles exist, the problem is that people come to the game and have an entitled world view that they should be able to play the content without any teamwork. Hence you have annoying stupid things like green dps and ice mages because players want to play it in a way that it was not supposed to be played.

If the trinity was actually working the way it was intended, tanks would have no reason to turn tank stance off, the second they did, the healer would rip all the enmity from them. If healers were playing it the way it was intended, they would be non-stop casting healing, and the second they stopped, the party dies. Neither of these happen because that would make the game too punishing to the "I just want to be a blue/green dps" people. Like relative to the beginning of 2.0 both healers and tanks have been nerfed to basically being unnecessary for all but the highest tier content. PotD basically made it so that nobody even needs to learn to tank or heal, here you go, go be a green dps/blue dps/ice mage, your skill level is meaningless. There is no skill involved in zerging content. Just keep mashing the dps button.

The DPS queues remain high because players don't want to do any teamwork that doesn't favor themselves. People who play tanks and healers regularly know how to play those roles on most content. Players that only ever DPS aren't willing to try these roles because they don't do big numbers when they think in terms of DPS. There are also other outside forces at work that ensure that players don't switch to tanks or healers.

Not really, other games without the trinity still have tanky and healy builds and are used, but not necessary if you have a lot of good dps so theres lots of variables, but all viable.

This is exactly the problem, its a very old trope now, and its simply the lack of vision and devs not knowing or unwilling to think outside the box. Though as you mentioned, the trinity here is a sort of hybrid anyway, its a pity they didnt keep going all the way with it.

8 man dungeons would be cool to be honest. It would add a little variety.
That's what I thought hard mode dungeons were gonna be when I first played this game.
Dunno what gave me that idea I think it was things like praetorium.

I stopped reading here. I really did. Can people stop asking for FF14 to be FF11 reborn. They tried that and look what happened.

DPS queues are long, have always been long, and will continue to be long.

Adding a new Tank or Healer isn't going to incentivise people to play Tank or Healer.. It will just shuffle current Tanks or Healers onto those new classes.

The only true solution to increase demand is to also increase supply.

My suggestion is this (although it is really too late for this to be the case in Stormblood)..

Increase the new 4-man instances to either 5-man or 6-man instances and scale difficulty / mobs accordingly. Of course this would be too big a job to change all of the current dungeons to this setup, so I am suggesting that any "new" dungeons after a certain point be changed to this.
    1 Tank, 1 Healer, 3/4 DPS.

Why? Well it's a simple equation of supply and demand.
You have more DPS queueing than you have slots in a duty - that is why queues take a long time. The simple fix to a high demand is a higher supply.

Let's use 24-man raids as an example.. Tank queues are actually quite bad for Dun Scaith (or at least were, I haven't attempted to queue as tank since a week or 2 after patch release). This is because you have more tanks than you have slots - since there are only 3 slots for a whole 24-man raid.

Increasing DPS slots by 1 in levelling and end-game dungeons would reduce DPS queues times by a good amount.
I'm afraid the only real way to reduce the queue times for DPS is for more players to choose to play tanks and healers. The ironic thing is I find DPS players are typically the ones to give these two roles grief when they do not perform up to their expectations, which are usually higher than necessary for said content. This then gives healers and tanks less incentive to queue into content with strangers. You guys seriously dig your own graves.

You wanna reduce DPS queue times, then use proper etiquette when you are actually in an instance. Believe me, tanks and healers WANT to give you their comms, and when you are not a sheep DPS player you will quickly get them. At least from those who appreciate your enmity control, group support, and following mechanics. When tanks and healers think to themselves, "Yup, pull the whole effin dungeon!" it's because you guys are seriously bringing the wrecking ball.

In short, just do what you are meant to do, and don't be a dick to your tanks and healers. It is seriously that simple. And when you queue as a tank or healer and witness a douchebag DPS player, know that this fvckhead is messing it up for all of you.

People don't know how to take criticism anymore, and bad play is rewarded with with a coddling mentality. Yes, this is a casual game for the most part - that doesn't mean people need to walk on eggshells in fear of getting reported for pointing out things. This whole 'please don't say anything even slightly negative' mentality that we seem to be going towards and the devs seemingly pushing towards it is creating a disturbing trend.

All MMORPGs suffer terribly with long dps queues for dungeon content. Raid content it's the other way round, tanks and healers find they have long raid queues or struggle to find companies where tanks and healers aren't already accounted for. It's the way things are. Sometimes tanks and healers get bored of tanking and healing, and new tanks and healers suffer scrutiny if they're too slow or too new to it that it puts them off wanting to do it ever again, so even more dps queue and less tanks/healers queue.
