Shogun Tank Request Thoughts

Hello, I will begin by saying that english is a second language. I play in the JP servers with JP players, so my thinking maybe diffrent from the english players.

Like others, I was hoping for Samurai to be a Tank. However now that it is DPS. I am wondering if the player base have a demand for Shogun Tank.

Yoshida did say he envisioned that, an armored samurai would be called a Shogun, and shogun is not represented in the FF series other then being a boss in two diffrent games. Legend ll and Legend lll and a garb in Lighting Returns. This would mean that a Shogun Job would be a XIV original if introduced.

Is there a demand in the player base for this Job? Enough that Yoshida would be aware of it?

Not anymore, there is enough demand for other jobs that making "another samurai but a tank" would be a really bad move unless it was done in say 7.0, but even then it would just look like they were rehashing SAM conceptually. I'm sorry you didn't get the job in the role you wanted, but that's the way these things work unfortunately, you don't see people going around asking for a "black knight" DPS.

It is true in what you say. However, jobs seems to rotate around the weapons they use. Would it still be impossible if Shogun not used a Katana but a Nodachi (Longsword in english) or Odachi? Or a in case of a Black Knight a sycle (off the top of my head)? Much like how Red Mage uses a sword but specificly a Rapier, a Palidan the basic sword and sheild, the Dark Knight a great sword.

Shogun is possible still. Shogun does not mean samurai and if desired we can have Shogun. There is no harm adding a duel wielding sword tank in samurai armor. Maybe sometime in the future we will get that class.

And yes..there was a demand for Drk's to be dps when they were revealed as a tank.

As you say in the far future it may come under diffrent name and weapon style. But if the devs do not know or is not really fully aware of a demand, it may not come at all. So I hope that there can be enough attention generated to let them know, we would like the job to come.

Nah personally, If this were added, I wouldn't want it to be the next tank that's for sure. Give me Blue Mage or Rune Fencer please. This would somewhat be more of an Original Concept, adding a Shogun. I would absolutely be the Saltiest person ever if DPS got new jobs such as Blue Mage because tanks got something like this instead.

SE should just start adding job's specialisation. If a WAR/DRK wanna DPS, then so be it, he choose DPS as his role and got talent associated. If SAM wanna be tank, the same. MNK could also be tank, we must find a use for those eart fist someday.
WHM could go DPS.

I understan your desire for a Job you like to see. Even if they were to add a Shogun, it would not likely be the next tank, so I think you do not have to worry.

I belive a subsantial amount is not very pleased with it beng DPS. The general consensus was that it was going to be a Armored Tank Samurai. They are saying that this version of the samurai is more akin to Ronin or Swordsman.
