Removal of Surnames

I'm in favor of a system without surnames.

I'm in favor of a system that is unfair to people who are uncreative and pick some of the dumbest sounding names from other FF titles, various rpgs, and anime.

What if you heard of a name in an anime, looked up its meaning and liked what it meant?

I had a character named kekkaishi. I learned it from an anime and I liked what it meant and fit my mithran rdm.
Kekkaishi translates into barrier master. And rdm has alot of self buffers.

honestly why do you guys play mmo and feel the need to nitpick what ppl use as names. I like how silly ppl names can be. Or if they use them off anime. I met friends who like the same stuff I did cuz I saw their name was from an anime I like.

I think the system should be unfair to those who nitpick.

Surnames ensure that a HIGHER percentage of names will be imaginative and interesting, as imagination won't be restricted by the impossibility of duplicated names, forcing people to settle for lesser names and silly one-two letter variations.

As of the game being turned in a "text adventure", don't make me laugh. FFXIV actually features more or less the same text as other MMOs, that display the guild name under the name. If it bothers you so much /names is your solution.

It's always funny how the opposite of a troll's arguments is normally true.

I have to agree with you on this, in FFXI I used a name from a novel I love. There were some people who caught the reference and knew of the book (and of course liked it too) and I made new friends because of that common connection.

so i guess im in favor of being able to change surnames?
doesn't have to be free but rather then throwing real money i would prefer to throw time(Quest) or gil at the idea.

Great idea. And I guess the "quest" will add a 2 at the end of your name in the case there's someone else with the same name around, right?

I like the fact that we have Surnames. I always hated when I'd create a character and low and behold the name was already taken and used.. it does give it a more real life quality to it because how many Amanda's, Michaels, Johns and peters are there out in the world today?

No offense, but less than 1% of the population has an interesting, clever, or powerful sounding name. This is virtually unattainable when requiring surnames.

I believe the only reason for surnames was because of the drama that occurs 8 years down the road when you have to merge servers...

Surnames should not exist in FFXIV. Not only do most people's names suck, but it makes the game look like a text-adventure in crowded zones.

I won't even bring up the fact that trying to send a /tell to Whargershire Alizeilaronetsunakashima as he runs across the screen is often a disaster.

If you are in defense of surnames, please know that your name sucks and is not memorable to anyone other than yourself (unless you're Belgian, Rofl, that is...)

All they need to do is a "click to tell" to solve your little problem.

I'll agree though that it's kind of depressing when you spend a few hours going through different cultures' vocabularies trying to come up with a sweet name to log on and see some jackass named xCloudx Sephiroth.

I am in favor of multiple names that mean the same thing.

I am strongly against "meanings" being the only reason to pick a name, and should be discouraged by any means possible.

I am strongly against most anime and the flintstones.
