Well clearly you're delusional. How exactly does this benefit the game more than your desire to change it? Simply put this is a selfish ploy to imply that somehow it's better to have one name than two. That's like Tom Hanks being called Tomhanks. Stupid.

It's like sitting down with your friend Tom Hanks for a sandwich and saying, "Hey Tom Hanks! What's your favorite sandwich meat, Tom Hanks?"

Or meeting some hot babe at the club. When she asks, "Hey there hot-stuff! What's your name?" To which you reply, "Aldroania Wasakutsumakashima".

Now that's just silly. There's a reason games that are well more populated than FFXIV don't use surnames.

If anything, surnames should be optional, and not required.

I was excited at the thought of surnames being included in FFXIV. Now that several months have passed and I see the pros and cons next to my XI experience I have to agree with the OP that surnames are worthless.

A nice middle ground would to show only the characters name but upon examination it would declare their full title with the linkshell they belong to. Thats a middle ground. Personally, I would prefer surnames be wiped and be allowed to rename and possibly re-select our races. SE is making big changes to this game and I want a chance to change too, leaving FFXIV's launch behind me with it.
