How about these challenged players Google a name database or gallivant around Wikipedia articles for names instead? You know, make the game a more aesthetic place for others and give your own character some more depth.

I love the surnames. I'm surprised they didn't do it before. FF games almost always have surnames.

I really don't understand what the big deal is. What difference does it make what other people's names are? With everything that needs improving, this really just seems like a very silly thing to argue about.

Surnames allowed many players to pick the name they wanted. And I put a lot of effort into picking both my name and last name and they both have a meaning that works together. So no, don't remove surnames. Just make a better tell system so that you get an autocomplete when setting the tell.

I like the surnames myself, I think it's pretty cool that you can run into someone with the same first name as you. But I suppose they could make surnames optional for those who do not need or want them...

I agree, sometimes people don't feel it necessary to have more than one name. But for mine however, its actually a name with a hyphen, but it didn't allow it so I had to split it up, which I'm OK with.

I'm neutral on the subject. I just knew I didn't want a long name this time around. I disliked being a taru and having an obnoxious amount of text floating above my character.
