Removal of Surnames

The solution the /tell mess would be to have an autocomplete feature like the Google or Bing search engines. It should have every character's name on the server in there, and you shouldn't have had to have sent a /tell to that person before for it to work. Unfortunately, I think SE is too lazy to implement a feature like this.

yes, of course the fact that a company doesn't consider a life or death priority to implement something, while implement a LOT of other things, makes them lazy. Riiight.

That still does not fix the problem of everyone running around with retarded names, and randomAss last names, almost none of which are clever in the least.

The only way to fix the problem of some people (far from everyone) running around with names that YOU find "retarded", is to remove names. People can compose silly names wether they have two names or one.

I don't get how anyone's name should matter. They can name themselves whatever they want, and it doesn't necessarily have to stand out, mean something amazing, and whatnot...

As for surnames, I don't mind them anymore. Though, at one point, I also opposed the idea as well. And for the folks wanting it to be an option, it'd feel kind of strange if I see some players with a first and last name while I see some others with only a first name...

i like the surnames, it makes me feel more individual and it's more customization. the auto-complete for names is not a bad idea to make tells quicker.

Personally, I like them - but then, with a two-word username throughout the web, it's only natural. I like the idea that people could have an option, but then it would become a case of "first in, first served" which would be annoying. I think you should be able to choose what is displayed, though. eg. If you register the name "Loony Bob", you could choose what is displayed - you could have "Loony Bob" or "Loony" or "Bob" - if you're roaming around and you see someone with a single name and are not sure if they are who you are thinking they are, just set it up so that their name always displays in full when the character is targeted. Simple.

I really would hate if they removed surnames. People with stupid names are always going to be around with or without a surname. It allows people to have the same first name and be able to tell them apart also it is like a clan name amongst friends and family. Both my brothers play and have Draconia surname and we are the only people on my server that I have seen so far with it. I have friends who are going to play when PS3 version comes out that are going to roll with Draconia surname as well and the name is become known on the server and when people see Draconia they know it most likely someone related to or RL friends with others that share that same surname. Also I seen a lot of couples share the surname. Just like everyone else though I hate to see people with uncreative names but I finally said who cares at least those idiots names are easy to remember.
