Like with Dark Knight. And how many Dark Knights picked up tank with no prior experience or care for how to tank, and just tried to be DPS-lite? How many picked the job up never even knowing that there are aggro dots on the enemy list, or understanding what a cooldown is? And finally, how many people threw the job away once they were done with it, because they like DPS better than the novelty of Dark Knight anyway?

Do you really want that, again only worse, at Level 50, just for what? The players who don't like tanking anyway to just drop away from the job like what happened to Dark Knight. Then you have three sword wielding tanks, four slashing-based tanks, all precariously balanced around each other because as it is the balance is precarious with just the three we have now, and the only people who suffer are the people who liked tanking anyway and played tank to tank, not tank to be the cool new job.

Its going to be a ripple effect.

When HW first released everyone leveled DRK because it was new and exciting. And while people may have not noticed it, people later on picked it up and started leveling it weeks after HW launched, so the queues started going back to normal but slowly. Even in the second and third month after HW release the dps queues were better than they were before 3.0

With 4.0 its the opposite, the queues will be the opposite of HW with dps having to wait, or even double the normal time. And since people may want to level other dps jobs as well and since there are more dps jobs than tank healer jobs combined the queue for dps will be long and wont go back to normal until much later this year if that.

But I think they are going to not make the same mistake with the fates in the new areas. And I hope they drastically increase the xp gained from completing PotD

DPS failure is typically not a death issue, it's a not meeting a DPS check issue...

And that's a bad deal, since those generally are designed to wipe the group with no chance of recovery.

I think you are misunderstanding. I was sure this was about dungeons. How many even have a real dps check anyways? If you chose to pug EX trials or savage raids you go at your own risk. Hell it should have a warning not all members may maintain the same quality of play. The wipes in 24 man once people get a little gear half the dps can afk and you could still clear. Not that is fun just saying certain content is very forgiving.

I think it's going to be more a more fluid shift than that, for one simple fact - most who are leveling that aren't leveling RDM or SAM when the expansion hits will be leveling in the 60-70 range initially (where many of the tanks will be as well), while those two classes will likely be primarily in the 50-60 queues for a time (though everyone will share the leveling roulette queue, so that specific one will have its own way of playing out, but beyond the first time doing it for the day I don't see it being used as frequently as queues for the highest dungeon you can run).

There will definitely be an increase in queue times, but I don't see it doubling and I definitely don't see it taking the rest of the year to self-correct.

I'm talking about it more from a conceptual level, because the person I was quoting was treating the death of a DPS as the only failure state they could face and how that isn't a fight ending issue.

Clearly there aren't many DPS checks of that nature in dungeons at this point, and the ones that do exist tend to be pretty forgiving, but the fact remains that they do exist and they are obviously meant to be the main token of DPS failure (alongside the occasionally used soft-enrage, such as the one seen when facing Hraesvalgr). That they are easy to pass for most groups is immaterial to the fact that if they are not passed, they immediately wipe the group.

correction: day 1 sam/rdm will be level 50 and will be grinding 10 levels to start the expacs story. this makes the career tanks and healers start the expac story right away. So i give it a week or less that those rdm.sam out the box reach 60 and then can resume their story. in that time, most trailblazers probably should be reaching level max and finishing story. And also while theyre farming ex primals, the ones that wanted to start fresh on new jobs, will be waiting hours for tanks and healers that arent there,. to get into story dungeons just to progress.

There will probably be longer queues to start with. How much longer is hard to say. I don't think any previous examples are completely reliable comparisons. DPS queues will likely get longer though for probably at least the first month.

I suspect after that you will see things balance as likely quite a few tanks and healers that made the switch to dps will come back to healing and tanking if only just for shorter queue times.

I think DPS queues are definitely going to get longer. I main white mage, but I recently discovered Monk, and I wanted to take that through Stormblood. Now I'm thinking I might have to level Monk on the side instead.

DPS players were willing to play tank for Dark Knight. The reverse can definitely happen for Samurai and Red Mage.

Also, Red Mage and Samurai will be available to new players who have just completed 2.0. Dark Knight is only available once you reach Ishgard.

People didn't stick to Dark Knight because they realized tanking isn't their thing. On the other hand, people are likely to stick to Samurai and Red Mage because they're DPS.

Im a Tank main. I reeeeally thought Samurai is going to be Tank (like moste people did tbh). I was looking forward to that class since the Datamining leaks but Yeah. Yoshi P invisioned it as a DPS so we get longer DPS queues and im considering switching to DPS too since im just a big Fan of Samurais.
