Because if he did he would not be the first post that everyone will read first to see what the thread is about.
If he posted in an already existing one his post would sooner or later be buried amongst others and be forgotten.
He needs his 15 min of fame to feel complete, that's all.

Atleast that's how I see everyone that makes a new thread about something that could've been posted in an already existing one.
There's no others reason not to.
