Samurai Melee DPS thoughts

What. There's a reason why party comps are usually calling for [melee x 2][bard/machinist][caster]. I didn't even want Samurai to be a DPS and this statement confuses the hell out of me.

For what i get you were saying that "mage" dps were stuck since 2.0 with the same jobs, that "melee" were stuck with the same jobs since ninja addition and so on.

If this was your point my point is that there is no such thing as "mage"/"melee" dps in this game there is only dps point.

In PF there isn't a reserved slot for "mage" dps or "melee" dps or "ranged" dps or whatever idiotic subdivision people want to create for thin air, there are 2 spot for dps jobs that's it.

that's just what ppl are use to. you can clear anything in this game no matter what you bring as dps. hes saying that theyre all dps regardless. whether youre up the bosses ass or standing far away.

I know this maybe a bit adding to the hype but isn't that Samurai Relic Armor a more detailed version of Auron's Armor from FFX but full sleaved?

I feel like the outfit is inspired by Auron's instead of just giving it to us via event or Veteran Rewards which is nice since its got the WOL flair but not a copy of someone elses

I hadn't noticed this, but now that I have, I'm stoked. Auron is my favorite character from X.

Overall it's a bold move for SE, but people have made decent points on this thread as to why it's not so bad. Personally, I've wanted a sword dps since I started this game and we're finally getting one. I'm excited to see how the expansion plays out.

You should back off and take some fresh air, you're gonna get banned if you keep replying so aggressively, and trust me getting banned in these forums take no effort.

The concept of melee DPS, ranged DPS and magic DPS exist, if you were watching the fanfest keynotes Yoshida himself named SAM a "melee DPS", you're also forgetting limit break makes a distinction whether you're melee, ranged or caster, and duty finder also tries to match 1 melee + 1 ranged/caster before going 2 melee or 2 ranged, the concept exists and people use it in party composition for raids.

Nope, sorry. Dragoon and Monks are pure dps melee class. Black Mage and Summoner are pure dps magic class (they are "casters"). Ninja, Machinist and Bard have support abilities to help the other members of the group while a Machinist can, for example, lower his dps by turning his turret into a Tp or Mp fountain so the other classes can keep up the high numbers. As ToppeHatte stated, there is a reason why a party composition has a mix of them.

Strange there is only the dps slot or the tank/healer slot or the tank/dps slotor the healer/dps slot but nope no mention of "magic" dps "melee" dps "ranged" dps or whichever delusion you want to use for justify this shit

Just because they aren't defined in PF doesn't mean the distinctions don't exist? As Alimdia pointed out, the different LBs separate the roles in-game, and even in the Samurai showing last night YoshiP straight up referred to it as a "melee dps" both vocally and in the slide itself.

They aren't defined IN game period.

The pf is only the clearest example on how jobs are divided in this game:

Healer
2xDps
