Samurai Melee DPS thoughts

I think its great. I had my predictions for how SAM should be in xiv and it was surprisingly close. Sound's like a hybrid of mnk (with three stances), and saving up for a strong burst attack (war wrath/abandon stacks). Now the question is how will it hold up to the other two str melee dps. Im still gonna main war but SAM could be my new off spec when it comes to grinding relics.

If I have to make a guess it probably function as a Off-cooldown type of skills like how warrior have their Rage skills.

Fell Cleave, decimate, inner beast, and steel cyclone are all gcds but I still have some predictions about that class that they have yet to reveal. I just hope there is no animation lock but judging by that charge conal aoe move at the end of the SAM reveal trailer leaves me worried.

I think they outright stated that the burst attacks SAM will require the SAM to stand still while using them and part of the mastering of SAM will be knowing when to use those skills.

they should probably just give the DarkKnight class Katana/Nodachi themed weaponry and some samurai armor to satisfy the ones who think that the class should be Tank. seems like an easy solution and a great opportunity.

it would probably require some animation editing so that the blade is faced the right direction per swing.

Considering we are going to Othard, this will most likely happen, whether they are intentionally trying to imitate SAM, or just making oriental gear for DRK

Agreed, I've mained WAR since beta but this is the change I've waited for SAM all day.

That is a TERRIBLE reason to want a job to be a specific role. Assuming you meant you want less people playing Samurai.

It is what it is...at the end of the day most people just don't tank..bottom line. Would have been okay by me to not see 10 full SAM fate parties day one rolling all over western coerthas, which in fact is exactly what we will be seeing. I fully expect way more SAM day one now than RDM. Might be terrible but I would have been fine with it.

I lost a lot of interest in the class when I saw it was going to be DPS, personally. But that's me just being really dissappointed we're just getting 2 DPS jobs, and I typically play tank or healer.

Gives me a good excuse to put off starting either of the new jobs in favor of getting AST to 70 I guess.

After maining tank for 2 years and hanging up my axe & swords a year ago to main DPS, I'm glad I can pick up swords again as a DPS. Coolest weapons always went to tanks. DPS finally got some awesome blades, so I'm happy.
