I'm sure there will be that bad ass traditional Samurai armor in game at some point. It's what makes Samurai besides the katana XD If that ugly robe is the only thing they wear then let's all cut off our topknots and kill ourselves now :P
Very likely. There's also the far eastern outfit in the mog station.
I don't need to be carried. I have already played this game since beta so I know the fundamentals already when it comes to positioning. Also I would think I know how to position if I have cleared savage which requires a certain amount of DPS. It's not good to assume about those who level via potd.
Anyone with a semblance of video game competency can learn any job in this game super quickly. The jobs in this game are NOT hard. The difficulty comes from people unwilling to actually learn anything.
The only thing that I'm not completely sold on is how it sounds very similar to how ninja functions. Granted we haven't really seen how it works, but the way it sounds is very similar to ninja.
Typical Final Fantasy Samurai: a Badass frontline fighter that faces his opponents and looks them in the eyes, never backs down. Fights with counters, parries and heavy blows while also being capable of protecting his teammates with skills like Threaten, Sentinel and Guard.
Final Fantasy XIV Samurai: Fights the enemy from behind and flank like a pussy. But has a kewl sword. H Y P E.
I'm happy. Gives me strong XI vibes with the flashy weaponskills. I'm especially happy that it wasn't something silly like a tank, whose concept still doesn't make any sense to me.
Unless you're the kind of person who doesn't know how to read and interpret simple skill tooltips, I don't think it would take very long for you to figure out positionals. But maybe I'm a little biased because I've been a Monk since beta so skirting the flank line is second nature to me.
With this character's death, the thread of prophecy remains intact.
I wish it was a tank, but I guess I finally have a reason to play a dps.
I am the Fist of Retribution
As far as I can imagine, the primary limiting factor is going to be whether or not dungeon design allows for people to forgo tanks to a larger degree than Heavensward's. Given SE's drive to remove their own mechanics (virtually any form of CC), it will probably be difficult to run nontraditional parties in order to escape queue times, but even that would require running with 3 friends so it's not like that would have been some sort of saving grace generally.
