well i would say they may have hinted since 3.0 as the ninja questline ends with Yuki saying she is sending a letter to Oboro's elders back in Othard which to me means the ninja questline for 4.0 was going to go in 2 ways

1. Go to othard with Oboro to face the truth of lying to them to remain in Aldernard
2. Be on the run from the village helping Oboro live a more free life honouring tradions in his own way

Before they revealed Othard i was thinking the latter now i'm thinking the former my opinion ofc

I just realized something.

Remember the Wintertide event? The event revolved around a sickly boy who thought his father abandoned him when he didn't come visit him and the other children. But as it turned out, the father was planning on going to the Far East to search for a rare herb to cure his son's illness.

Our journeying to Othard was literally hinted at as far as 3+ months before the Fan Fest (along with the Hidibrand quest outright saying that he was flying towards the Far East too). And no doubt we'll probably run into the kid's father again.

Pretty sure it was the Near East - i.e. Thavnair he was going to.

So I just had a crazy thought. The concept art gives some of those stone spheres and half spheres a distinctly Allagan ADS look. What if Au Ra were the result of an attempt by the Allagans to make a human/Dragon chimera? Would possibly explain the Dawn/Dusk link to Tiamat and Bahamut.

Possible, but I dunno how plausible - everything about the Au Ra design says that they're meant to stand with the other Spoken Races, not apart from them, and none of the other races are "engineered". Also, the engineered races that *do* exist aren't anywhere near as humanoid; I'd question whether the Allagans had that sort of genetic technology, especially since Azys La is meant to represent the zenith of Allagan science.

That might just be my distaste for the idea coming out, though, as I've never been a fan of the Au Ra arbitrarily being the children of dragons/Voidsent/Allagan mad science while all the other races just are, simply because they're the one that wasn't in the game from the start. A more unified definition of Spoken Races works better than the alternative, in my opinion.

Well it is a crazy theory. There was one point where I considered the possibility that Miqote were chimera due to off handed comments from a side quest in Azys Lla and the fact that there was someone trusted by one of the last royals of Allag that was a Miqote and intrusted with the royal bloodline.

Wether they were capable of it, I would say that is almost certain. Ixali are chimera and so was Scylla from ST (she didn't always used to be half hound) and we see hints from Azys Lla that they at least experimented with Spoken races genetics (there is the thing you can fish up that seem to have lalafel skin). The Allagans seem to have pretty much thrown the concept of ethics out the window at that point.

I am not saying they are, just that I wouldn't be surprised in the least to see a playable race to have such an origin, at least lorewise. I think it is extremely unlikely that Au Ra are actually chimera.
