    Laptop Upgrade Help

I've been using an Asus tp500L i5-5200u processor, 8g ram and Intel hd graphics-5500. I'm only getting around 23fps max on standard setting with all game effects turned down pretty low.

So, I'm in the market for a much better one, but I don't want to pay for what I don't need. This new rig will really just be used for ffxiv. With very little alt tab Netflix going on, lolz.

Any suggestions? Looking to spend around $1,000- $1,500. Prefer a 15" needs to be portable. Thanks in advance for your help!

If you have a laptop that works, there's no real reason to get a new one. Just buy a desktop or build one yourself. You already have a laptop so if you need a portable PC, you can use that. And when you're at home you can play XIV with much better settings than any laptop can give you for much less the cost.

Yeah, I do know that a desk top would be best, the laptop is my primary way of playing. I know I'm missing out on a lot of the visuals the game has to offer with my current setup, but a desktop just isn't viable for me due to a lack of dedicated space.

If you're worried about space, you can always use smaller cases

Though of course, if your main worry is portability, then the above suggestion would fail to be of assistance.

With your budget I would look at laptops with 6th or 7th generation Intel i7 CPU (6700HQ or 7700HQ for example) and more importantly a Geforce GTX 1060 graphics card. These current 10-series graphics card are actually desktop grade, so they are a massive performance increase over the previous generation mobile cards such as GTX 960M. The i7 + GTX 1060 combo will let your laptop stay relevant longer and if you ever want to try other games it will have more than enough power to handle most games at high to ultra settings at 1080p resolution.

    Example: MSI GP62MVR Leopard Pro-406

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The Dell and the msi look pretty good. I'll take a good hard look at them.

CPU is less important than a good graphics card/GPU. An i5 is fine for just gaming. You only need CPU power for streaming/compression/rendering tasks. If you're just gaming, you can cut costs by going for a good i5 CPU and focusing on a better GPU.

I recommend what i'm using if you are going laptop. I'm using the MSI GE62VR Apache Pro. It has Geforce GTX 1060 with 3g video ram, 16g ddr4, 256 gb ssd + 1TB drive. I just got it like a month ago and I love it.
