If it goes as first buff removed, it makes sense have it on pvp. Or, buff removal removing last casted buff, so it makes sense have buff in a given order, "protecting" the good ones... ah the pun here![]()

Have you considered our lord and saviour Aero? for SCH it's 30 more potency than broil and slots nicely into a dot refresh pattern, and for AST it lets you dps while moving. only for a small amount but small amounts are more than nothing.
Also for SCH i think blizz 2 is more useful than stoneskin, but that's kinda personal preference (spamable AoE on SCH \o/)
Except you cannot dps "more". With or without protect you tank will still need the exact same number of heals, so protect is entirely obsolete at low level
sch doesn't need to heal at all as eos covers all required healing, and ast ED serves as a short-CD bene, that is always off CD by the time the tank needs a heal.
I take cleric first slot, blizz II second, protect third

For AST Aero sounds like a decent alternative... for SCH... I'm already doing enough finger gymnastics as it is to even consider it. I would never not have Stoneskin on a healer, but Blizzard II over Surecast is also a decent alternative to me. Surecast is a useful but hardly used ability so thats probably the first thing I'd give up. Stoneskin is just a straight up useful thing to have and use often, at least as far as I'm concerned.Have you considered our lord and saviour Aero? for SCH it's 30 more potency than broil and slots nicely into a dot refresh pattern, and for AST it lets you dps while moving. only for a small amount but small amounts are more than nothing.

I am not sure how common PvE toxicity is but since 3.5 it seemed to be on a huge raise. You are not wrong though as others said. I am too confused why people care about protect since I am doing the healing???? Regardless, yes the kick feature was abused on you, and I hope you reported them.
But here is what I do with people getting snippy about it. I say give me a minute for the game to let me cast it, I cast it then take it off again.
Also:
Clearic > aero > protect> swiftcast > stoneskin
blizzard II is replaced with clearic for PvP
though to me protect and swiftcast can be prob flipped, esp if you are overgeared and gear synced down, as EoS can pretty much solo heal anyway.
I think the most ridiculous hissy fit I seen for protect was for hero on the haflshell, a level 15 ****!!! GUILDHEST! We entered and sat there, then finally someone said [protect]? I said I do not have it, we did the ... run.. and at the end I get "healers always need to have protect" and left, before I could explain why that is nonsense. Some people i can't even....

The community in this game applies min/max principles of raiding to general content to a ridiculous degree.
I use my Noct set shields over Stoneskin, yet PLDs always put it up.... why?... because I'm too lazy to be bothered and it has an immaterial effect in general content.
If you're not dying people need to learn to stfu in the game.
I might see that a bit different. You have adlo as a scholar, there's no reason to use stone skin. I yet have to find content, that needs me to cast adlo + stone skin, on someone. Maybe if you're solo healing a lot, but even than, there's not much that would need that combination. Except your tank went afk during raid and there's no cool downs. While I am not a huge fan of surecast either, I rather have an open slot, than putting SS or Surecast on my bar as a scholar. I do agree with Kara, if you have a slot available, aero + blizz 2 can be your friends. For AST Aero sounds like a decent alternative... for SCH... Protect in the early dungeons is completely inconsequential. Cleric Stance on the other hand, allows the healer to do considerable damage. It's a no-brainer which one is a better candidate for the first cross class slot.
