You can paint a lot of furnishings and the house itself.
A *lot* of the basic furnishings are now sold at a vendor in each housing ward/sub-division.
Hey man, congrats on getting our own house
As for your question, now the price for at least part of the furniture has been reduced because the housing merchant at house districts has items for sale that used to be accessible only through crafting - as such basic furniture like interior fixtures, rugs, desks, beds and etc has been greatly reduced... other than that he cost of the rest of the furniture depends on your accessibility to gathering materials to craft the items and wether or not you have someone you can ask to craft stuff for you
I'm still unsure of the logic behind this move. Basic furnishings for homes was a fairly steady, if unspectacular market for crafted goods. Putting all that stuff on a vendor basically killed that aspect fo crafting, and made every one of the recipes almost redundant.Hey man, congrats on getting our own house

I've been wondering about this myself...I'm still unsure of the logic behind this move. Basic furnishings for homes was a fairly steady, if unspectacular market for crafted goods. I mean, excluding furniture, a lot of craftable items can be purchased NQ from vendors (low level items at least) - be it equipment, food, etc - but in most these cases there was still use for the crafted versions, since HQ items do in some cases have certain advantages. This however doesn't apply to furniture, as HQ furnishings aren't even craftable. :P I'd have an easier time understanding this if, like, only the crafted versions of these items were dyable, or something like that?
As it is I guess they just randomly decided to render certain crafting recipes completely useles...
I went from having fishing at like 23 from back in 1.0, to having all crafting and gathering classes at level 30 or higher. When I finally managed to buy my small plot late last year, it kicked off a whole new wave of addiction to the game as I grinded those classes. I was also able to gather and craft all mats as I went, so 100% of anything I sold, vendor or otherwise, was pure gil profit. I only recently got my gil back up where it was pre-house though. X)
Basically I want to craft all my own furnishings eventually.

Limsa Lominsa keep your pirates, and your ships covered in musty mold.
My loyalty lies with Gridania, with the Moogles and the tree spirits of old." -The Forky Conjurer
For my personal house, only paid for the NPCs everything else was crafted since it only needed to match my taste. Which is all rustic stuff and being a CRP really helped with that.
Now my fc house on the other hand....*sigh*
Since I wanted to make it nice for all members I've probably dropped a good 1.3m into it so far...so ashamed of myself T^T
The most expensive thing I've bought for my house was the mats to make the paissa wall. About 2.5m, would have been more if I couldn't gather and craftsmen of them with the help of my friends.
On my initial small house furnishing, I dropped about..4-6 million, I think.
I had many of the most expensive things already from my FC room before that, and I'm friends with lovely amazing omnicrafters who make most stuff for me if I ask them to, so I saved a lot of money.
But just the basic mats for most of the cooler furniture are often 400k-7 million, and you often need several pieces per recipe, so yeah. Still expensive
Since the initial furnishing...hm..another 15 million or so? Maybe more. I would have spent a lot more if I had it, but I don't, so I have to let go of my dream of owning certain furniture xD
Housing is literally the only reason I have leveled any crafters beside CUL at all (and was a major motivator to level gatherers too), just so I don't have to rely on my friends so much x)
But mats from aquapolis, airship ventures, rare raid drops and retainer 18 hour ventures are still not obtainable by myself, so I have to drop a lot of money on them at the MB :x
Open the housing menu while on your estate and it will display several options. One of them is dyeing furniture^^
It gives you a list of all placed furniture, either greyed out (non-dyeable) or normal, in which case right-click it and select the dye (looks the same as the window for gear dyes).
If you physically stand beside the furniture you want to dye, you can see it change color according to what you click on in the dye window, so you know how it actually looks before you pay for colors![]()

While the window looks like the one for gear dyes, the dye itself quite often does not. The pieces I've tried to dye all combined the dye with the default color, giving far more weight to the default color. So if something starts out brown, you might not be able to make it red or green or blue, just brown with a faintly reddish cast, or brown with a faintly greenish cast, or brown with a faintly bluish cast, or whatever. (I found it rather disappointing, but maybe you'll have better luck with the pieces you want to color.)Open the housing menu while on your estate and it will display several options.
