    ARCanist and ARCher

    Good day

Today I was really disappointed, because wasted my time. In thaumaturge's guild I received a quest to raise ARC to 15 level. Arcanist, of course, and I began to raise it. After leveving it UP I found out, that not ARCanist, but ARCher. I was really disappointed, because wasted my time

Dear localization stuff, please, in quest "Taking the black" make a change, instead of ARC put Archer

    Thank you

Erm, it's ACN for Arcanist & ARC for Archer. All you need to do is read, a basic skill that is essential for game play.

In quest was written "you must have ARC 15 level to take this quest", I opened the classes menu and saw first, what I saw- Arcanist.

So, to fix the misunderstanding, that can happen, I offer to change the quest text, It is simple

I find this weird too. It hasn't ever caused me any problems (thankfully) but I pronounce ARC with a hard 'C' like ARCanist. I pronounce the ARC in ARCher with a soft 'C', nothing like the way I say 'ARC' on its own. I've been playing for years and still can't remember which is which without thinking hard about it -_-

Thankfully neither class is all that relevant after jobs become the default. But I can see how the OP made the mistake if the quest text was not fully descriptive.

It would probably be better to write the full job name in the requirements since the abbreviated job names aren't really used anywhere except when you create a new gearset, if you look under classes in character they are written out in full so archer and arcanist are easy to mix up to those who don't know any better. Especially when arcanist would seem like a more logical support job for black mage than archer.

You need to level archer for raging/quelling strikes anyway, so it's no real loss.

I agree that this particular case leads to confusion, and should be made clearer. Even moreso because this happens early in the game, and not everyone has massive MMORPG experience. I have seen people who played FF14 as their first MMORPG, and abbreviations such as these can be complex when inexperienced, when absolutely everything in the game is new to them. Having to learn things they never heard before, such as "aggro" and "enmity" and a whole plethora of technical terms, it can be overwhelming.

On a sidenote, I recall people talking about "levelling their bot" and taking me ages to figure out they meant botanist (BTN). Now that's a rather silly one. x_x

While it might seem partially annoying, Arcanist is your third tiered class so having it leveled to get Eye for an Eye or virus is good, and Physick is great. While I know BLM is the "powerhouse" I once was able to keep our tank and DPS alive after our healer died with just my measly Physicks; and their dodging, if they were poor dodges... yeah, but still, PHYSICK.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

    Look at it this way.

The time you "wasted" now will be time you will have saved yourself in the near future on leveling for cross-class skills ^^

'course after Stormblood comes out and changes how cross class skills work, they might just completely toss out the requirements of leveling a second class to unlock a job. That'd be nice huh?
