I guess expecting people to know their job basics at 60 is elitist now.
On reflection, and I think you deserve an earnest response and careful explanation, yes, though I wouldn't term it "job basics," expecting people to have cross-class skills or know how to use them at 60 if they are yet to get 3.5 content solidly under command is unfeasible. Calling elitist or not is pointless. A person leveling a class will go through the content of successive patches at a pace much faster than those patches were released, going through in about 2 hours of play time what was released over 28-42 weeks, with a +15 to +30 item-level lag building up over those 2 hours with each individual patch content cleared, to say nothing of them only picking up, optimistically, 3 or so items per tier. They're going to lag behind on gil, tomes, and drops. Of course, your comment is not about those things, but I mention them because such a player has not established their character and job well. You don't need to know what you're doing to get through the main story, and the main story generally comes first, and fast. A rounded out character that can do one job well is sort of out of the question.
OP is in a more severe situation, without a backlog of scripture to back them up from a first class, and doing Sohr Khai well after the release of Palace of the Dead, which has enabled many people to reach level 50 or 60 without even doing the jobquests. I would say many people go right through with their first class from 1-60 before getting cross-class skills; and I can tell you quite a lot of tanks only get Provoke when they hit Bismarck because they are still leveling Warrior or Dark Knight for the first time.
You may not agree with it, but this is the state the game's design encourages people to be when they hit 60, at which point they are generally still going through the Main Scenario quests.

What about adding a DF flag "I am a pro!" you can turn on, and in DF the option to ask to being matched with only pros? This way, if you get bad ones in a duty you can kick them at will.
j/k!
