    PvP - Materia - Unclear/Contraversial

So I've recently spent a lot of time in PVP thinking that Materia would work in it according to what the gear says:
"Materia effects active during PVP only."

How ever the playguide at http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...sden/thefeast/

    shows me this:

"materia bonuses will be ignored, regardless of the item level of gear affixed with materia."

Please clarify and show me actual developer notes on this if possible.

    Thank you!

Before Frontlines, when there was only the Wolves' Den (now called "The Fold") PvP materia and their effects proved to be a huge advantage, along with the PvP gear that was far more expensive and rank restricted at the time. This caused a disparity where players with more experience/gear/materia would be incredibly powerful in an unbalanced sense. As such, when Frontlines was created, materia (ALL materia) bonuses were ignored and an item level sync implemented in order to ensure a baseline for gearing and stats rather than teams of high geared experience always crushing those with low gear (making it harder for them to gear up to an even playing field).

As it stands now, PvP materia is effectively useless, as the bonus is ignored in PvP, and the specific materia's bonus is ONLY active in PvP (so no stun resistance or the like for PvE content). This unfortunately hasn't been explained all too well, and it shines a light on the amount of neglect/proper support PvP gear/rewards have received even til now. For what it's worth, save your marks and do not buy PvP materia unless perhaps you can transmute them (I haven't tried) into something more useful.

Thank you for that reply ThirdChild_ZKI
Here's what I don't understand though; so regular materia won't work on PvP? It HAS to be the PvP type materia for example Sleep Resistance? It's not clear.
I'm assuming PvE means none-Player vs Player instances?

NO materia works in pvp currently. Yes the game is offering to sell materia that does nothing for the game. PvE means Player versus environment, basically 90% of the game. The reason? SE neglects PvP and anything PvP related is an after thought. SE focuses on PvE

Okay, so some people say that, some people say materia works, nothing is clear to me yet because I still see no documentation or patch log that says "Materia no longer functions in PvP" or anything stating that it used to and now isn't.

Another thing that's confusing is why this gear would even state you can use materia and it would only work in PvP - "Materia effects active during PvP only.
While in PvP areas, item level increases an amount equivalent to current Morale rating."
. I want to believe that the developers weren't all that lazy? Why not just ERASE this misleading description from the armor (if this is the case).

P.S. Thank you for the reply regardless, I really appreciate that.

    Explained above:

I do not know where SE documented it but experienced players are the ones saying it does not work, the not experienced think it "works" because such as yaself, think it does, just because it is there to get. It is basically like the cross class system that they are addressing in 4.0, the classes to jobs and the abilities is a 1.0 relic, while the pvp materia is a 2. something relic. This means it is an idea/concept that is no longer used, same with the pvp stat morale, as explained in the quoted. So to repeat, right now, pvp materia has no purpose, unless you can transmute them and like the quoted said, I have not tried myself but I have doubts they can be transmuted, even if they could, I doubt it would be anything useful since they are seen as level 1s anyway. To answer your comment, again SE is, at least with pvp. SE cares way more about PvE and this translates to abysmal balance in pvp between the jobs anyway.

If ya dont take our word for it go test it in a duel yaself? that area obeys all pvp rules, pvp commands are open to use along with blocking clearic stance.

I wonder if the reason SE hasn't taken this useless materia out of the game already is because they plan to go back to it in 4.0

shouldn't have been done in 3.0? just shows PvP is an after thought and all "balance" attempted is half bake.

yo SE give SCH some CC already?????

Not only have they not erased the description but they also continue adding slots to PVP gear. It remains a mystery to all of us. Sometimes when I have spare marks I fill the slots on my PVP gear just for the heck of it, but it is a waste of time.

The gear remains slotted, possibly as pure oversight and simple sticking to how things always were (looking at you, Morale stat), or perhaps to maintain somewhat viability as alternative endgame gear. . . This would be true, and useful if it wasn't always several patches behind current item levels.
