I Found That: Botanist V - Is this intended?

I recently obtained my blessed pickaxe on miner. I did not have to mine a single 3 star folklore item to get the achievement.

Now I'm working on botanist, and I'm currently at 227/230 items. I have one more folklore book to obtain, but it only opens up 3 items, one of which is 3 star. Leaving me 1 short of 230.

Am I missing something, or do I seriously need one 3 star folklore item to get the hatchet? (An item which is intended to help you get to that level.)

its glamour and not idended to give you anything. You can get the folklore stuff with full 170 anyway. And yes you need 1 folklore item.

If they gave it lvl 1 stats, which would be okay anyway, people would just start 100 threads and complain about the stats. So they are as good as the best obtainable stuff and not purely useless, except for glamour purposes..

Normally, I'd agree with you on achievement items being glamour. However, the blessed tools have the same stats as augmented red scrip tools. So they can be viewed as an alternative to scrip farming. Second only to ironworks tools.

That being said, they are "intended" to get you up to that next tier; to be able to gather the three star items. Just as the augmented red scrips tools are intended to do the same. Both are an alternative to the ironworks/melding process, considering you can get those items without the ironworks tool. What you can't do, is get them with a tool lower than the blessed/scrips tool.

The pickaxe can be obtained without the 3 star items. So my question is why is botanist required to do so? Doesn't seem like this was intended to me.

You are assuming they are intended to get you to 3 star level. That may not actually be the case, not if you have to be at that level already.

Not sure if they've fixed that, but shards/crystals/polycrystals are only counted once, if I remember correctly - as in: if you have discovered them with your miner, you cant discover them again as a new item with your botanist. So it could be possible that your miner got up to 18 "lowlevel" items extra that your botanist didnt.

Thank you. This is what I was wondering. Because there's over 270 items in botanist's list. Seems unlikely you'd not hit the 230 if there wasn't something wrong.

It's sad but i believe that's false, Vidu. My mining is 0, and everything i have gathered has originally come from botany, and im stuck at 229 myself. Not sure how this is possible to get the achievement without getting triple stars.

Glad to see I'm not alone. I counted up the items in BTN's list and it was something like 277. It still doesn't seem right even if some items are shared.

In the same boat, once I get my last book I'll be at 229/230. On my miner I got it with at least a one star item left to spare and all the three stars.

Sorry for the tangential question, but was just wondering how you got the MIN achievement without mining any 3 star folklore items?

I've mined every non-folklore ARR/HW item and the non-3 star folklore items (there don't seem to be any checks missing), but the achievement still shows me at 149/150 progress... and as I was under the impression that there were only 153 (154?) unique miner items and I should only be missing the three 3-star folklore items, I'm wondering now whether there's something up with my mining log ;

EDIT: Having gotten all the BTN folklore tomes now, I've found myself with the opposite problem (completed the BTN achievement without having to gather any 3-star folklore items, doesn't look like I'll be able to complete the MIN achievement without gathering any 3-star folklore items). Really strange...

(I thought the new items added in today's patch would help, but apparently they don't count towards the achievement?)
