    Royal nymian marine axe

So i remembered this was a thing. It says Nymian but it is quite obviously made in the same style as the floating Mhachi city; Dun Scaith.

Did the devs botch up or are they trying to tell us something?

    Crazy-goggles on!

What if there only ever was one floating city? Created by nym, taken by mhach and repurposed to house the Mhachis?

This would explain why the floating city on La noscea is just a huge hole with some ruins on the gound and why Dun Scaith is just a big empty somewhat touched upon city. Did Mhach simply steal Nym tech to survive the flood? I wouldnt put it past those pesky lalafells!

One glaring problem with this theory is that Nym wasn't a "floating city" until the late Sixth Astral Era. Nym survived the Sixth Umbral flood with Golbas Rombas's "maelstrom" strategem where Nymian vessels aligned themselves in an arcane glyph that summoned maelstroms which weakened the tidal surge that eventually swept away the Bay of Nym.

The accepted theory was to how the city was torn from the realm involves the over-aspecting of corrupted wind crystals - a phenomenon witnessed late in the Sixth Astral Era.
That's not to say ideas weren't shared or stolen during the Fifth Astral Era. Mhach had plenty of its own pesky Lalafell, as well as other races. We know that during much of the Fifth Astral Era the twelve nations of Eorzea shared in their knowledge of magic. Mhach was first to discover a method for a magi to channel aether beyond the capabilities of their own aetherial fortitude. The techniques learned to counter this magic in Amdapor could've been learned in part from the Mhach, just like how Mhach later advanced their skills at Amdapor's golem magicks after capturing one of their stone guardians.

Nym? Their scholars created faeries, which are lesser elemental beings. Were they designed with the elementals near Amdapor in mind? Did Nym learn to make golems from Amdapor as well? Did Nym take axes from Mhach? It seems unlikely with Nym's background of marauders/marines and their relation to the talented kobold metallurgists.

They give some background in the 2016 encyclopedia

I read some background on the story there, I won't spoil it, on the history is rather interesting. Gives a light background and hoping to know more. Can't wait for Vol. 2 , it will be a while lol.

I am aware that the floating city didnt fly by nymian design.

But the mhachi had a weapon, that currently holds a good chunk of Nymian architecture. OZMA. Would it be feasible that ozma ate a chunk of the city, and then the mhachi repurposed it for housing their peoples? I am aware that there are big holes that needs filling, but im sure its possible.

Or the most easy answer is simply the sharlayans botched it and mislabeled the axe. they didnt know about Dun Scaith

The War of Magi lasted for 300 years and during that time many nations allied and betrayed one another.

That said, the heart iconography could have belonged to the Nymian Marines and the Mhachi architects decided to use it since they liked the look and possibly to commemorate their victory against Nym. Much like how the Allagans used dragon imagery on their clothes to commemorate their victory over the Mercydian dragons

That said, I think it's possible that smaller void-powered (Ark precursor) airships were used to search for suitable floating land masses; maybe that's how they transported Ozma when they wanted a city-state destroyed.

Or this. It could have belonged to a Mhachi-employed axeman that died in Nymian territory during the war

Or it's just a Nymian axe. We don't have any definite reason to believe anything different, really. We don't have many other examples of Nymian gear and weaponry.

The design may put one in mind of Dun Scaith, but that could be totally coincidental. I see people saying Dun Scaith looks like a gothic Ishgard, but that needn't mean anything either except that certain aesthetic sensibilities can be common to different peoples across different locations and times.

Perhaps the Mhachi architects who designed Dun Scaith took inspiration from Nymian iconography, instead of the other way around. See real-world examples of clothing fashions etc. being inspired by the clothing of enemy soldiers or friendly hired mercenaries from foreign lands (e.g. the Spanish tricorne, the Croatian cravat both being integrated into French military and civilian clothing).
