Not always an option for more rural based players, or even players in rural classed cities, given the line quality in most areas. Considering a lot of people are still stuck on the old copper unless you're in a big city it's just not viable. Other ISPs beyond Telstra all still loaning the lines directly from Telstra, so it's infrastructure issues not solely base ISP.
I have mixed latency. Anytime I see the connection read on log-in flick to excellent I can guarantee I will have dropped inputs, lag, and even DCs. Friend I have in AU who is outer-suburb of a big city has same issues despite better lines out there.
I wouldn't move servers from where I am, have too much attachment, but it would be nice if there was some more of a buffer to help out even tho' it'll never happen.
I find little issue playing from Australia on tonberry. Most of my FC is AUS and they can clear A12S so I don't see a big problem.
Honestly I doubt I would switch even if they did do it. Sure Blizzard has Oceanic servers but it also has a vastly bigger playerbase. I am not convinced FF14's Oceanic population is sufficient to make it an issue and the ping isn't high enough problems to bother me.
Considering how long it took them to introduce EU servers and the fact they are currently spending a lot of money on existing server upgrades I wouldn't imagine we would see Oceanic servers any time soon anyway even if they did consider it.
As long as the subscription revenue of all AU/NZ players is less than the cost of building and running another datacenter, it'd be a bad business move. Simple as that.
As a player from New Zealand getting 270 without a tunnel, yea the latency is a pain, even more in pvp.
But this game isn't Wow and the Aus/NZ region doesn't have the same player base as Wow to justify an oceanic server. It would be dead on arrival most likely, as all wow had to do was move existing servers to oceanic.
As for saying 300-400 latency is irrelevant, try doing something like titan and not getting knocked off.
While the latency is a notable issue, lets face it... our third world internet is part of the problem and there is nothing SE can do about that.
I can deal with my 230+ ping (I was born in it, molded by it.), the bloody game freezing for seconds at a time because Telstra is having 'ongoing issues' is whats killing me.
We are simply too few to warrant a server, as much as I wish it were different.
I have, with about 350 ping. It's not that hard to anticipate.
Frankly, even though it sucks, it's simply not worth it for them to have dedicated servers in Australia. Better off kicking out the politicians who continue to allow prehistoric practices when it comes to internet.

Do people not know of the time Yoshi P was there and said himself he was disappointed with the latency there? ...and as much as that doesn't magically make a centre there feasible, he's definitely aware you exist, and that the situation exists.
Convince more aussies to play, in reality there isn't a large enough demographic, they could do an oceanic server perhaps but that would depend on the population of the other countries that encompass that.
Australian data center for Australians? Do you really want to limit your potential player base with such a niche server or data center as that? The biggest issue with latency isn't the distance, it's the number of hops and the performance of the backbone that carries the traffic.
