Trying to cancel paid retainers, official suport gave bad or invalid directions.

So i sent a support ticket asking how to cancel my paid retainers so they dont renew when my subscription does... This was their response:

(1) Log in to the Mog Station

(2) Click on "Your Account"

(3) Scroll down to "Retainer Service" under 'Additional Paid Options" and select "Cancel Subscription" for the intended Service Account.

(4) Confirm cancellation.

As far as i can tell that's how to cancel my ENTIRE subscription, which i do not want to do. I tried searching around and found what sounded like directions online, however those all seem to be outdated as far as the website instructions. mostly telling me to select options that dont seem to exist.

Change the number of retainers to 2... that puts it back at the default amount that comes with your account.

OHHHHH! Okay, i thought that meant i'd have two PAID retainers in addition to the two you get from MSQ stuff.

I had accidentally signed up for an additional 2 retainers my first day somehow, figured i'd enjoy them for a month since they were already paid for, and just not renew them. Man, the game is pretty decent so far but holy cow SE sure did their best to make everything as confusing or complicated as possible. Even just signing up for the game was a hassle, for some reason even though i had an existing SE account under my email, if i tried signing in to mogstation with it it would ask for a username. I tried putting in my existing username (the one i had JUST logged in with) and it would tell me that it was taken. If i tried creating a new mogstation account under a different name it wouldnt let me use my SE email for it since "hey, that email is already taken". Why my SE account cant just be tied to everything as it is is beyond me.

You do need to actually press the cancel button. If you read that cancellation screen carefully, it is for the retainer service ONLY.
What I said before would give you a total of 4 retainers.

It *IS* confusing if you don't ready it carefully... but after going over it carefully...

FFXIV Mog Station > Service Account > Retainer Service > Cancel Subscription > Confirm = 2 Standard Retainers once the period expires that you've already paid for.

There's a separate button related to the service account.
