I kinda get the posting limit, but the character limit gots 2 go!
Posting limit should increase as your rep does, and should Be reasonable.

That's not a good thing that's just stupid.
I dont mind the post limit, but the character limit should be changed.
The post limit might be good to stop some people from arguing too much and maybe cool down a little. Yet I do feel like either its the job of a moderator to stop endless arguments or the community can stop it too. No need for restrictions. Also a 100% YES to removing the character limits. I mean this is not a limit of 5.000 or something..1000 is way to low. If you edit your post because its too much and you post it afterwards you often see how small the post really is.
Dear SE how can you gather our opinion if its limited so much? Is this limit there because deep down you dont want to hear long well thought out posts?
All I can say: Please get away with it. I cant write short and I always cry a litte on the inside after loosing a big post because I forgot to copy it.

I think the post limit is fine. I have only hit the wall once in the three years I've used the forums. I do find the character limit really annoying. However, there is a fine line between not being able to say enough and saying too much. Honestly, if your post is such a wall of text that it could use a TL;DR you're probably not being very concise with your message. if I had to pick a solid number I would say 3,000 characters. If you feel the need to say more than that I don't think the edit button is going to bother you very much.

If you force your device to show the desktop version of the site (usually the menu in the top right corner of the browser), you can get to the edit button.
I suspect the character limit was determined by the Japanese side of management, since 1000 characters is a lot more text in kanji than the roman alphabet...it really needs to be changed, though. I end up having to edit the rest of my post in almost every time.

The post limit seems like one of those issues with SE Japan not really being aware of the rest of the world again. The Japanese use far less characters, so this limit is really quite liberal for them.
Western languages? Not so much. It takes us a lot more characters to get our ideas across.
The amount I vehemently disagree with you is staggering. If you've ever posted on the lore forums, any decent argument there will make every single one of your posts pass the limit.I think the post limit is fine. SE needs to increase the characters limit per post. It is annoying to have to stop typing after a few words and press edit to continue with the post.
There are times you lost your thoughts and/or ideas of what you were planning to say because you have to press edit and wait till you can actually edit your post. I am not always at home and sometimes the wifi just drops.

Somehow I wonder if the character limit only exists because the staff only took the Japanese language into account when designing the forums. A 1000 character post in Japanese can say much, much more than a post done in English, perhaps excessively so. It's the same reason why Korean MMOs tend to have such absurd chat restrictions in English (a world shout that you PAY FOR in a Korean MMO I played only goes up to -40- characters, some items can't even be linked in there).
That said, not only is the 1000 character post limit absurd, for some reason we don't even have a fan creations section either.
