MSI Afterburner can measure all of the stats of your graphics card while it's running and, if you set up the server for it, you can view those metrics on an iPad or such so you don't even have to flip out of XIV to do it.

    Thank you!
So both the cpu and gpu are working at around 60% at idyllshire...the GPU is using around 1.5GB of memory...
My guess is the cpu is what needs replacing

I also found out I wasn't updating my nvidia drivers...I was only updating the nvidia gameready driver (confusing).
That driver update helped a lot, fps improved a lot...but I still drop to 40fps. I guess that's the cpu? Sorry for all the questions..trying to prepare for stormblood.

40 Fps isn't really all that bad, to be honest. Game is very much playable at that rate. As far Stormblood is concerned, they're upping the min spec, but I doubt it'll be anything higher than what you have and your performance really won't change at all with the Expac.

That is a CPU issue. I suggest checking your CPU temperature and if you have to, changing your thermal paste. I had a similar issue like half a year ago in which the game would start to drop fps and I have a i7 4770, GTX970 and 16GB RAM. Realised that I needed to change my thermal paste and after that, not a single frame drop. Idyllshire works at 55-60 fps easy now.
