Cannot focus target via controller

Man, I love how everyone is eager to post but nobody really cares to read the OP. His problem is that after hitting square, his d-pad no longer easily navigates the sub menu.

The only thing that comes to mind is while playing on the PS4, occasionally my touchscreen would be dirty or smudged with a fingerprint and would register as being "pressed", which seems to shift the input focus away from the menu. Try cleaning your controller touchpad and see if that fixes the issue?
