    The Lightfeather Proving Grounds

Hey so i know that a few people of the forums and on other media have made note of this, but I'd once again like to draw attention to this.

The Lightfeather Proving Grounds is currently an unused area within The Holy See of Ishgard within Foundation. It is very near The Forgotten Knight. The lore behind it is that it belongs to House Dzemael. It's intended use was to be for training chocobos, but NPC's inside state that it may also have other uses.

As of right now, it has been used for a handful of quests and that is all. As Heavensward draws to it's end, I must ask if their is any intention to use this area. It seems like a nicely designed arena and deserves to be used in some form or another. If anyone has any suggestions for this area, please post a response. If by some chance that someone from the community team can read this post, that hey could give us an answer if there are any plans for this zone.

Could be a nice area for the 'hall of the intermediate' people keep wanting, with jump pots and all.

In ffxi they had a monster pvp mode called pankration, it was essentially Pokemon. You caught a monster with a soul trapper then levelled it up in an arena fighting other people or NPC's monsters.

It could be used for something like that, though this would more likely end up in the gold saucer.

Not to put down anyone's enthusiasm, but the phrase "I'd play the heck out of that (if they put it in XIV)" really doesn't seem to pan out when that content goes live.

Let's look at a few examples:

Triple Triad: the fervor was real and so many people loved the heck out of it initially, but at this point in time the number of people who actively play TT on a consistent basis is very low. Are there people who devote their time to it? Yes, but that number is fairly low.

Chocobo racing/breeding: once again, massive fervor on release that is now mostly untouched content. People still do run it, but it's mostly a ghost town for competition.

Lord of Verminion: same as above, even though this was a new system for the game, and players are still around, but it's not anywhere near active.

Diadem: much like XI's zone, this place was heavily trafficked at first, but I don't think that there's much to be said since its been closed down to be revamped.

TL;DR: Content that people say "they'll play the crap out of" that generally isn't in line with the core concept of the game tends to fall flat, especially if that original interest is based off of nostalgia that XIV will never be able to replicate.

My opinion: something like a PvE battle arena with its own currency and glamour rewards like PvP's Wolf Marks would fit better, especially given the tone of this area.

I think this could also be an interesting use for the space.

    Thank you for the input

    [examples listed]
The problem with each of the things you've listed (with the exception of Diadem) is that you can only do them whenever you're not queued for something else. So you have to do them exclusively. You can't just play a round of verminion or triple triad when you're waiting for duty roulette as a DPS.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, since I haven't played Triple Triad in a while, but I do recall being able to play Triple Triad while queued. Regardless of that, though, I still don't think that your being able to queue for things while doing them would make any of these more played. The lack in interest isn't so much that these things are stopping you from doing other things, but that they're not enjoyable alternatives to doing other things. Most of those systems play off of nostalgia for things other games (note: single player games) did well that have been adapted to XIV in a way that feels artificial and doesn't really give any benefit to the player for doing them.

The inclusion of a system that is more in line with the core theme of the game that offers rewards that people can actually utilize, like the glamour rewards, is going to be more attractive for people, especially if they can make it something that offers a variety of challenging content that you can tailor a bit to what you're looking for.

XIV's biggest issue now is that you do content up to a certain point in the week and then you have nothing to do. There's so much potential of what you can do in a battle arena: solo challenges, 4-man trials against random foes, 8 and 24-man fights, gauntlet runs of varying difficulty with random buffs and debuffs as you progress... All with the ability to choose the exact experience you want at any point in time. We need a system where people can create their own fun easier without having to rely on the same exact dungeons and raids week after week. I know my solution won't be perfect, but it's better than shoe-horning a system from an old game that doesn't fit the feel of XIV just because nostalgia.
