DNC + SAM = Samurai? (A boredom fuled musing)

Sorry, sorry, I'm bored. Keep in mind that I don't really have a positive or negative opinion of any job the DEVs add in SB. I just really don't care as I like what I have in PLD/DRK. So anyway I was poking around the wikia for Tactics Ogre (a favorite game of mine) and noticed something I had forgotten because I don't use the Swordmaster, the Samurai class of that game. In TO.... Swordmasters DANCE!!!! <--- (That's a link lol)

So I got to thinking, since FFXIV borrows a lot, and I mean a lot from Tactics Ogre, and the fact that the Female Swordmaster's art shows her in a green dress similar to the Lady in Red's dress in cut.... is it to much of a stretch to think that maybe it's possible?

Like I said its all boredom fueled, just noticed it and thought I would throw it out there, better then the super negative threads out there right at the moment.

only obliquely related to the topic at hand but when DNC was added in FFXI if you were a samurai with a soboro sukehiro playing as sam/dnc was awesome for soloing stuff.

Interesting thought. I find it to be the case that whenever you dislike a job, you kinda welcome it become part of a job you like just to make sure the job doesn't survive by itself.

What I mean by that is, I disliked Corsair and I am happy that the job won't ever be added in FFXIV cause it got implemented in AST via the card system. Same for DNC. I hate DNC but I wouldn't mind if SAM gets a sword-dance mechanic and absorb the DNC job in the process.

In other words, since DNC is going to be a thing one day, I'd rather it be part of another job than be added as a separate DNC job.

I could see them make SAM a self-healing tank if that were the case, in the same vein as WAR. Maybe since DRK is a MP management tank, SAM could be a TP management tank. Your self heals would cost you TP, but you'd be able to "regain" that through combos and cooldowns.

Now that you mention it, I recall far eastern swordsmen utilizing "war dances" in older forms of media. (okay mostly anime and parody movies) so this actually makes a lot of sense.

What amuses me about this post is that back in 1.0, Lancer literally incorporated elements of FFXI Dancer and Samurai. It was a debuff-oriented DPS, with two major abilities being Life Surge and Power Surge, which afflicted the enemy with a Samba-esque effect reducing stamina loss (1.0's pseudo TP) or giving life drain. Throw in a bunch of dragoon-like spear attacks (Old Chaos Thrust was like Penta Thrust+1) and you had a kit that I really liked.

I have no clue about the Dancer class from FFXI. I never played FFXI, but have been playing FF games since the original Final Fantasy and the only "dancer" I know of is Mog from VI. To me, the woman in red looks like a Monk performing a kata.

    ka·ta
    ˈkädə/
    noun
a system of individual training exercises for practitioners of karate and other martial arts.
an individual training exercise in karate and other matial arts.

After her kata, she then spars with the meditating male monk, using the exact moves that the male Monk is using.

I mean I guess I wouldn't argue about the idea of a Swordsman, blade dancer or really whatever they could be called though in the end I still would much prefer to see Dancer as its own thing.

I feel like Dancer is unique enough to stand on its own, same as Samurai. If they were merged and released as Samurai, well, I don't think it really phases me since I have little intention of playing either beyond trying them out for kicks.

I think Dancer is such a weird, useless job that combining Samurai with it will help Dancer tremendously. On the other hand, Samurai is such a great and iconic job that combining Dancer with it will completely destroy Samurai.

I think you'd have an easier time trying to merge Dancer with Mystic Knight than with Samurai.
