You can always have your instance entrance on the garden "door" (google says you call that garden fencing, correct ?) or have a garden instanced in you backyard or even, as I said earlier, winter garden or even green house
I remember I had a flat roof on EQ2 and used it as a garden with trees, grass and even a fountain ^^

Then good point of that is we would get rid of some...."art piece" we can see in some housing areas ^^"

Pretty much... SE is super stubborn, though, so I'm unsure this will ever happen. But instanced housing would allow for more customization options, larger decor limits (I mean really, I can have 2500 inside and 2500 outside in WildStar...), and a system that is accessible by everyone...

I dare you to look at the art creations in WildStar and Rift housing and call that "dull".

Well all of our tips and posts did nothing..they still choose to go the old way..this could have been their chance to still have their old idea in the 2.x areas and take a new idea for the 4.x area..so sad V_V

Letter from the Producer LIVE Part IX Q&A Summary (10/30/2013)
Q: Will there be any maintenance fees or other costs for housing, besides the cost of the land and house?
A: In older MMOs, such as Ultima Online, there was a house maintenance fee you had to pay weekly, but in FFXIV: ARR we decided against this system. Similarly, these older MMOs also had a system where your house would break down if you didn’t log in after a while in order to have you continue your subscription, but this is a thing of the past and we won't have any system like that.

All they have to do is double wards on busy servers and I think we'd be ok. But they don't want to do that for two or three servers.

I dont really think that this would make the situation better. A single person still could purchase a house so seeing how many players this game has this would not be enough for everyone. On top of that you have the FCs that wants them too. And lets not forget that there are some people that own multiple houses thanks to alts.

Yup. It's pretty obvious they're not interested in actually improving the housing system. Very disappointing. :/ I guess it will always remain a pale shadow of what it could be.

No offense, but it is kind of a silly idea for all the housing to be instanced. Entering houses is ALREADY instanced and so is FC rooms and apartments. Removing the neighborhood aspect would really take away the charm and appeal of owning a plot. While I completely understand where you're coming from, the only solution would be to lock the amount of housing you can own on a server to 1; no alts or anything on your server can own a house other than your main. I see so many people hogging houses, totally unfair.

For the meantime, people are just going to have to camp out like the rest of us on housing release day. If you really want a house, stay up when they release plots and hope for the best.

The houses were instanced but the neighborhoods was not, pretty much the same thing they did with appartement in fact.
1 residential area and in this area 10 houses for instance. The outside was open, so you could see you neighbors but each house's inside was an instance and no restriction on the number of "houses" can could be created

Instanced houses are not worth having. In fact the only housing in an MMO I've found really satisfactory is Archeage. If you want to see a really crappy implementation of housing look no further than ESO's new system. Everyone can get a house but who'd want one?

@Etcher: And you are completely forgetting all the games that are making it great. Wildstar was already named so was Rift. I never played any of them (to be truthful) but just watching videos of the housing always awes me and if I had more time I might even play them just for this alone. FF14 and its creativity pales to this. Also our houses are already instanced the only still left problem is the wards, thus the gardens that are there 24/7 and that take so many resources. And seeing how we can now plant inside the house too without a problem, the garden is not really a big reason against going fully instanced.
