    FFX Minions...

I am not sure on if this is considered lore but when I read it, it sounds like it is. I've gotten the Rikku and Lulu minions (getting Yuna minion from the Frankfurt one) from the Fanfest livestreams and both seem to hint that the characters of FFX/X-2 are living on Hydaelyn. They refer to their side of the world or continent as "The Far East."

What are your thoughts on this?

Fan service with made up lore to justify the items being in game.

Same reason we get Triple Triad cards of past Final Fantasy protagonists: in Eorzea they're just mythical heroes. Probably about as real as King Arthur

I might have read it wrong, but i'd assumed characters in a story told in the Far East.

I might end up getting the Frankfurt fanfest stream myself. Got the Vegas one and hurricane pretty much killed electricity and internet in my area the weekend it happened and watching it after the fact wasn't the same. Plus I want the minion. :3

I'd like the minions, but not enough to pay for them.

Without the descriptions myself, I can't say for sure. The "Far East" is probably just a reference to how X has a more Eastern setting compared to most other franchise installments, but I digress.

The two descriptions are: "Peoples of the Far East tell the tale of a plucky young lass with a fiery heart and a questionable taste in finery who accompanied a summoner on her journey to bring peace to the world. That young lass's name was Rikku..." and "Peoples of the Far East tell the tale of a powerful mage and master of puppets who rain destruction down on any that might harm her companions as they made their journey to save the world. Her name was Lulu..."

MilesSaintborough and Rocl basically have the right of it though - for us players they are obvious fan service items, clearly referencing the characters from FFX. Within the world of Hydaelyn, they have made up lore tailored so that it fits without really breaking/contradicting anything, namely that they are characters in a story about saving the world told by a particular culture/region

Probably a mix of that and how little we know about the Doma/Hingashi region of Hydaelyn, so having "local myths/legends/tales" inserted into those cultures that happen to resemble parts of other FF entries is much easier to do.

They did the same with Wind-Up Kain, most of the other Final Fantasy characters are just fairy tales.

What about Lightning and Shantotto? They're canon, Lightning even brings Miqote garb back with her that she can wear in LR:FFXIII

Whether Lighting physically visited Eorzea is... up for debate. I'm not sure if it was just her spirit or she actually came to the world, but Lightning was sent by Bhunivelze to Eorzea to prepare her for being the "savior" in LR:XIII. The garb she gets in that game is, like the franchise fanservice minions we can get, simply recreated in the image of a myth and has no connection to the time she spent here.

Shantotto did visit by using her magic to rip a hole into the Interdimensional Rift.

She got the Miqote garb as a gift though from Eorzea
It is implied that the Miqo'te Dress garb Lightning can wear in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII was given to her by Kipih Jakkya while she was in Eorzea.
Upon revisiting Kipih Jakkya, she reveals to the Adventurer that she managed to meet and talk with Lightning since the previous encounter. Kipih says that during the interview she gave Lightning special Miqo'te clothing as a souvenir of her time in Eorzea before seeing her off.
The 2 FFX outfits and Clouds Soldier Uniform are fanservice but the Miqote garb is Fan service plus reasoning. I don't think it's really up for debate that Lightning was really there when in the event she brought something back with her.

Despite what information is given in this game, the explanation for the Miqo'te garb in LR:XIII contradicts this. It's not a default option - you have to complete a sidequest to get it, the dialogue for which explicitly names both Miqo'te and Eorzea as being "mythical" relative to the XIII world.

Best to leave Lightning's visit ambiguous (she did visit, but whether it was just in spirit or physical is up for debate) and adhere to what LR:XIII says about the Miqo'te garb in its own game.
