It is discrimination no matter what. "I will only party with people who speak Japanese," is discrimination in the same way, "I will only wear yellow," or "I don't think children should smoke," is discrimination. Discrimination in and of itself is not always a bad thing, and sometimes it has valid reasons for existing.

The issue is, "JP Only" is perceived, whether intentional or not, to be a "you're an outsider" slur against those who don't speak Japanese, which is I'm sure you would agree, a bad kind of discrimination. Racist? Perhaps not.

But it certainly comes off as prejudicial considering there is an auto-translation feature meant to make basic party communication possible. So even if you want to frame this as simply an issue of language, I think there's a case to be made that being told "JP Only" is still rude and hurtful given that people of any of the supported languages ought to be able to make a go of it no matter what.

In the same way, I'm sure there are plenty of habits and phrases westerners have that are offensive going the other way. But communication is the key to ever settling these issues, not separating servers and ending communication entirely.

And what about those of us who just want to play in a server with a much higher density of people who talk english?

I am sure there are people who feel that way on the japanese side too.

I'd like to see this matter sorted pragmatically, not in an idealistic/romantic way. Gameplay should always be king and in a MMO gameplay is tied to communication.

If you really are dying to have contact with other cultures there are better ways.

The one who seems to be stubborn here is you. Yes here are Japanese players who prefer to play only with Japanese players, but the same goes for every language speaking community here. You seem to have an agenda to blow this phenomenon way out of proportion as if ALL Japanese do this when it is NOT the case.

I actually did not start the thread just have a problem with people thinking Its ok for "JP only" parties. As i said 1 million times if they are gonna do what IS HAPPENING and single people out then give them and us our own servers.

Why is this so hard for you to understand? Why can they say "jp only" and half you people defend them and i say "I do not like that" and im slammed. That is unfair.

Also I did not make up the servers thing SQUARE ENIX did. I just like the idea. I do not mind getting slammed i mean it is the interwebz but this is silly. Im not stubborn i just do not want people on my server that will never play with me If i can have a choice. plenty of people agree with me and some disagree. Also if SE leaves it the way it is i wont care either. FF11 i played for 7 years it was fun and F14 i plan on playing also.

DNO with proposing regional servers you're being worse than "JP-onry". Not only do you do refuse to play with JP yourself, but you're forcing everyone else to not play with people outside of their region either. Why can't you just play on an international server and just ignore everyone you do not want to play with and let other people decide for themselves?

I am not pushing anything SQUARE-ENIX talked about this idea and YES i like it.

2nd get this right. I am talking about SINGLE LANGUAGE servers not regional servers. There is a difference.
If SE is in fact talking about Regional servers then its also ok with me. Even if they leave it alone its ok with me. I am not forcing anything i just like the idea of the server change.

Also why is it ok for you to force your view of servers on me i can't on you? I do not like your way you do not like mine so i am forced to play how you want it? Its the interwebz iknow but damn son.

As one person pointed out with a fine example, although it is often perceived as discrimination (which is definitely a bad thing), its simply meant as "we're looking for people who can speak Japanese to play with us". Is that wrong? They're not trying to single you out as the mean foreigner they don't want to invite. Taking on that Japanese players testament again, most Japanese players don't know enough English to say "we're looking for Japanese speakers", "JP Only" is short and from there perspective is understandable. We don't need separate servers its not going to change anything, we just need better communication.

Very well said and i may also add that if a group of players wil not party with you its very bad in an MMO.

I think enough points have been made for having regional servers so it's clear racism is not why we would like it.

I think open regional servers are the way to go, people can always play in a JP server if they like it.

I still don't think splitting the community up into separate boxes is going to solve anything. People can already separate themselves if they want to.

The community is already split in many boxes.

At least splitting it by regions has the benefit of having more people speaking the same language and lower latency.

One. Assuming they do create new servers, they're still going to be in Japan so I don't see how that improves latency.

Two. How does taking a big group of people and splitting them into smaller groups create more people to speak the same language?
