I don't find that interesting at all. What if I don't enjoy Lancer's playstyle? I don't want to be forced to play a different class/job to be optimal at mine.

Why do we -need- Protect, anyway? It doesn't really add any value to the game. It's a buff you apply at the start of the dungeon, and you ignore it unless someone dies. They could rework it so that it's a spell that offers more engaging play for WHMs.

5% mitigation that doesn't need to be updated until after 30min? Sounds good.

You understand that the 5% mitigation is for every hit that is taken? Not just by the tank, but everyone? If you put the numbers together and look at the CDs and MP it takes to recover the difference, protect all of a sudden makes more sense. Those who would like to use regen to counter this argument should realize that regen is more effective when protect is up.

Protect is overrated in early content, and underestimated in later content. Trust me, your healer will always appreciate allowing them to get protect up, but it honestly isn't that hard to cast during battle. The loss of a gcd sucks, but it is just one and can be managed. That said, let your healer f**king cast protect.

You mean, damage reduction is useless?
In a time where average ilevel is 250 and duties were done for the times i80 was something reserved to high raiders, you are right. In duties where it is easy to end up to 1% of your HP, maybe not.

Not to mention, when a duty starts, everyone is silent and -expecting- protect being cast, anyway. It is the way to tell party "hey, yes, I'm the healer, here is proof!"

Back to the OP, I guess now that we know the skill system will be revamped, we just have to sit and wait what happens next.

Edit: on the other side, I'll agree about it not have to be a spell but an healer's passive party buff. But the game haven't player passives so (imo) the reason for it being a spell.

They can always change it back to 15 minute duration.
Also giving the other healers only protect and give proshell only to WHM

15 min is still too long. most enrage times are less than that.

i never thought about this topic but it totally makes sense to rework Protect so that it's more than what it currently is (a minor annoyance for healers when someone dies).

maybe they should make Protect and Shell operate more like single target Sacred Soil (i don't think it should be similar to Stoneskin or Galvanize at all).

I thought the same with buffs in WoW and they removed them in their latest expansion. I now miss them, it feels odd zoning into a dungeon and not using Mark of the Wild on the party. I'd like more buffs introduced in FF14.
