Question about item properties and Limsa from a new player.

Good morning everyone!

I recently started playing and currently I am lvl 12 on my Thaumaturge and picked up a few Conjurer levels.

Now I have been getting a number of items but there is some information on them that I cannot quite figure out yet, so i come to you seeking some knowledge:

Convertible: Yes
Projectable: Yes
Desynthesizable: Yes
Crest-Worthy: No

What do these things mean?
I tried looking for some information but I haven't found me a solid source yet.

Also, I am aware that you can get certain skills from other classes in your toolset if the levels gained are appropriate.
Now I want to pick up the Arcanist class, but I cannot seem to reach Limsa.
I walked to the area west of Horizon, but the boat doesn't seem to go?
The ferryman isn't willing to sell me a ticket.

Convertible: Yes > You are able to turn this piece to materia after it has reached 100% spiritbond (you will need to be in certain point of your main scenario quest to unlock this feature). You can then sell the materia or meld it on a piece of gear for additional stat boost (you won't need to worry about materia melding until level 60, though).

Projectable: Yes > You are able to glamour the piece to look like another piece (you have to be level 50 to unlock this feature).

Desynthesizable: Yes > After having leveled your crafters (level 30 to unlock this feature), you will be able to desynthesise this piece to gain crafting materials.

Crest-Worthy: No > You are not able to place a Free Company crest on this piece.

To get to Limsa, it's best to progress in your main scenario far enough to unlock airship travel (around level 15 quest I think). When travelling to Limsa for the first time, don't forget to attune to the Aetheryte there to be able to teleport back whenever.

I am new as well and I got confused by the game even before the mumbo-jumbo about materia (whatever that is). I don't know what the main scenario quests are, or how to identify them. I still see quest givers with bubbles over their heads. Are those all main scenarios? And before you ask, yes, I did read the quest text. Not very enlightening. I'm used to LOTRO and SWTOR with obvious "main story" quest lines.

Right now I have no quests in my log at all. What I wanted to do at level 10 was go to Limsa Lominsa in order to make this character (my one and only so far) into a Rogue. I got to the ferry but got told it was unavailable. So, here I am. Stuck. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

you will discover these things as you continue to play the game!
but for now a quick explanation:
Convertible - if a piece of gear is convertible it means that once it is 100% spiritbonded it can be converted into materia.
Projectible - means it can be glamoured onto another piece of equipment if the appropriate conditions are met
Desynthesizable - once you unlock this ability you can break down this equipment into baser components
Crest-worthy - if you are in an FC you can choose to have your FC crest appear on your equipment

You are a THM and you started in Ul'Dah - keep going on in the Main story and eventually you will gain the ability to travel to other city-states. Once you reach Limsa Lominsa then you can get to the Arcanist guild and sign up to become an Arcanist. The ferry from Vesper Bay will become accessible eventually as well. Just keep playing on! If you don't know where is the next MSQ, open your journal to see your last completed main scenario quest.
Then search it on Lodestone (http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...=0&category3=1) to see where the next quest giver is located.

Hi Scorcsia,

The main quests can be identified by the bubbles above NPC's heads. These will not look like the most common round (or oval as you wish) bubbles, but rather a edgy, flaming-like looking bubble.
I sat down after the tips I got yesterday and decided to follow only the main quests.

After a good number of these, I was offered the ability to use Airships, and that airship brought me to Limsa.

To clarify, there are 3 types of quest icons. Theres the oval, the oval plus, and the comet. Oval quests are optional - youll get some exp, maybe an item or two, and some lore but thats about it. Oval plus quests are optional as well, but they unlock more of the game for you. New dungeons, new commands, new anything. This quest unlocks the Gold Saucer for instance. Follow the link to see the Oval plus icon. The comet icon quests are the MSQ quests that people mention. This one here is the first one for a gladiator(and again, the link shows the icon in question). The MSQ(main scenario quest) line of quests tells the story of the game, and unlocks a LOT of things you need/want to be able to do. Hopefully that helps a little.

Bonus tip! You need to complete the level 10 class quest from the class you started as to unlock the armory system. This is the ability you have to switch classes and become something new(or just to become everything). So make sure you do that before making the trip to Limsa so you dont have to go back.

Luckily I did my lvl 10 class quest before departing by airship!
