Materia melding is not a gil sink. It don't destroy gils. Unless you buy the equip from npc and not from retainer/another player.
A real gil sink is if you give the gils a npc and not another player.

It's going to be a hard game of catch up for them, and things like market inflation due to veterans with large sums of gil is going to be a stumbling block for new players. Couple this with the fact that in a year's time many players will have leveled all of what they wanted to the cap, and you'll have low level players who have no one to play with. You can see this happening already, as the exp rates are so high. You have people shouting for a party in uldah, and the higher level the party is, the faster it fills up. This is because most people have already leveled up past the low levels and therefore have no jobs to play at the lower levels. It's going to get to the point where low level players won't be able to find anyone to play with because everyone is already done leveling.

Sure new players can play with each other, but in that case you're going to have a rift in the community between pre-2.0 and post-2.0 players. That is something that I think SE needs to address.
SE can just bring new classes for this problem. Then the veteran have something again with level 1 ^^
