    2.0 Character Data Concern

For starters, I started playing 14 this September but I did play Beta. Last week I got my last of DoW/DoM to 50. We all know what the time line has coming up to some degree. We also know that 2.0 will essentially be a re-launch of the game.

However, there are some very pressing issues with the way data will be transferred with the little knowledge that we do know. My focus is on the gear and money transfer.

What we know: Yoshi has said that there are no promises to what degree the gear will remain, but has mentioned that we will keep our items and gil when our character data is transferred to the new servers.

Gil Problems: We already have an influx of gil on servers. If 2.0 is supposed to help bring in new players, why do we get to keep our gil? Sure we can say we earned our gil, but this is NOT 2.0! Everyone keeping their gil come 2.0 will only widen the gap between old and new players. I know people can say this happens in the life cycle of a game and during expansions, but this is neither. Another benefit is that it will help destroy RMT even if temporarily when they lose their storage of capped gil. I will be sad to lose all my gil. I'm sure crafters and day 1 players will rage and throw a temper tantrum but it is for the good/life of the game if we all start with 0 gil come 2.0

Gear: Gear somewhat suffers a similar issue. If gil was to be eliminated people would simply convert all their savings into items/gear. On this point I think it is okay for them to transfer gear as a way to display unique items we obtained for staying with FF14. At the same time I think that all gear pre 2.0 should not retain the NPC price it has currently. All the gear should receive the same sale price that unique / non-transferable items get~ 1 gil. With this method again people will not be able to destroy the new economy but retain items that are worth using or hold sentimental value to them.

Side note: With all the class/job changes we can't even say come 2.0 that we leveled from 1-50 and learned our classes. A majority will have learned it at 50 and not progressively. I would like to say these should be reset as well, but then we face the issue of players leaving until 2.0. In my gaming career I have not seen a game start fresh ever. Most games that flop fade out of existence and the company moves onto a new project. However, if possible I think I could tolerate only allowing one DoH, DoW/DoM, and DoL to be kept at capped level when 2.0 comes out so that the new players can have others to level with and so that the new content is experienced to the fullest by old players.

Now these are just thoughts I have had floating in my head. I am sure I will catch a lot of hate. Most likely from old players, rich players, and all 50 players. But if we were to stop and think about the health of the game we play and the future it holds, it is in our best interest to ensure that the transfer to 2.0 comes with the greatest chance at a successful relaunch. I mean think about it this way. If our gear had no value and we had 0 gil perhaps the materia system and future gear could become better. Because if we look at it right now, the materia system is actually there to help us get rid of excess gil but is negated by coffer drops and crafters. This is not a petition of any sorts, but hopefully I can view how others feel about this impending situation.

You get to keep your gil, items, and your character won't be wiped.

dude, while the game will become really different it's not a NEW game, aka a data wipe would be stupid.
See 2.0 like an expansion: after an expansion land on a game, you don't wipe items and money on the game, because isn't a new game. An if i would be a new player, i'll not ask devs to wipe money on the game because people played before me

I did say a full data wipe should not be used. Also 2.0 is a relaunch not an expansion because if it was an expansion it would not be a recreation of what is currently there and the servers would not need to be taken down for a short time which can likely take around 2 weeks or more...

@Antanias: I know we get to keep everything I am simply concerned that by keeping everything we have now exactly the same like gil and gear value that it will only hurt the relaunch.

i know isn't an expansion, that why i did what is called a "similarity"
btw, a gil sink can be created, but wiping or reducing money like that it's hardly a "gil sink". After they wipe it, you can always redo it

The other thing is. If they wanted to "earn" our trust back they still stomped all over the people who had invested in the what was great but now-dated gear in favor of new recipes. Which are being changed again I might add. Which will be changed again in 2.0~ So to be honest if people were worried about things retaining value they most likely will not have any really come 2.0 anyways. At which point gil influx will only harm the game unless they come up with a even bigger sink or another method in which to create gear worth using. I guess they could create a dynamis currency system of sorts or make the company seals worthwhile.

You do realize the whole issue you have a problem with only lasts for about 1-2 weeks after a patch and then dies off, right?

Again, not trying to belittle you, but you're just wrong. You don't understand the current game economy if you feel gil is an issue. I have no crafting or gathering jobs above 30, yet I have no problem turning a lovely profit from farming specific mats.

Just because you/new players don't want to take the initiative to use basic math and run the MW/AH, doesn't mean that everyone should lose their gil.

Yeahhh, a money wipe isn't going to happen. That would spark a mass exodus.

"ok team, lets regain the trust of our players by wiping their character data"

it's not happening. They've said several times already that everything is being carried over.

sounds to me like you would be much happier re-rolling when 2.0 comes out

but as for your ideas, i think most ppl would feel like all there hard work has been for nothing. if i lost everything i work hard for , over the next year when 2.0 comes out, i would be very unhappy and question why i have been paying sub, i can't speak for others. but i bet alot would feel the same

What I have shown you is reality. What you remember, that is the illusion.
