World of Warcraft had a system (recently reinstated, though never used) As soon as people saw how bad and unreliable it was everyone went back to Vent or Skype. Nowadays it's Discord for raid party chat.

Everquest2 also tried to make an in-game voice client. It was also terrible.
I would prefer a voice service from a company that is dedicated to just that. They are pretty much useless if I can't make out the words and have to ask in (text) chat what everyone is saying.
