I suggested this once and just about everybody in the thread told me it was a terrible idea.

I'd like to see, but I think we're in the minority.

I also agree with a previous poster that there needs to me more variety in the wares sold throughout Eorzea. I hate to bring up FFXI again, but I thought the regional vendor system was well-executed. I know we don't have conquest, but maybe in the future there could be a system that changes what products and prices NPCs have.

Also like Tetsaru's ideas about supplying food for troops. Perhaps for every set amount of food turned in (like 10 apple juice and 5 dodo omelettes) the game gives you one NPC to help with Hamlet Defense.

I'm glad you liked my idea! It'd really give Culinarians something unique to do in my opinion, which they desperately need.

As far as shops and guilds having scheduled hours of business, while it would be cool in a sense, from a design standpoint it would only serve to inconvenience players and create an unnecessary timesink. I could see hamlet shops closing during an attack perhaps - gotta protect everything, of course - but I don't really see much point in it otherwise, unless there was some sort of advantage in doing so... say perhaps a temporary sale on all goods between the hours of 18:00 and 0:00 or something.

Now, if there different items on sale on a regular basis, depending on the time of day/day of week and/or the condition of the hamlet overall, I could definitely see that happening. Then it could be like, "That last Garlean attack ended up burning my supply of Rosewood Lumber, so I'm afraid I'm out of stock for now... but if you go find some for me to replenish my stocks, I'll let you have one of my other items for half-price!" Something like that would be cool, I think.

Heck, you could even build up reputations with certain NPC's this way:

"Look! It's the great Tetsaru Arigashi, who defended the hamlet multiple times with his life!" *gives you a unique weapon*

    ...or,

"Tetsaru! You saved all of us! Here - come stay the night at my inn with all these slutty catgirls!" *maximum HP goes up 10% for the next day*

    It'd be friggin' awesome.
