Fishing up that Bucket

I've seen reddit posts and read up a lot on this but I don't even know what to follow..and I really don't want to waste my bait sooo...

Magic Bucket.
Does this have a gathering/perception requirement? I seen a ton of people in the 550-600 range with catches, and even a few 430+... I have 475/400. Am I wasting my time or should I keep trying? And..should I go ahead and get better gear anyway..using all my gil..or is it really just completely random?

I've read to use snagging..and I've read to and not to use Fish Eyes.

I used snagging when I caught mine and I did not use Fish Eyes. I don't know what my stats were as I did not have melded gear, but I believe I was using the Ironworks set and the luminous fishing rod. It probably has a minimum gathering/perception requirement. However, one of the comments on ffxivangler says the player caught it with stats lower than yours so I think your gear is fine. The biggest problem with the magic bucket is that it has a very low chance of being caught. I think the rate is like ~1%. It took me about 100 catches to land one. I'm not a career fisherman though so other players may have better advice.

I got mine at 2:15 PM, snow weather, with snagging on and without fish eyes. It took me a little more than 700 brute leeches. -_-,
I don't remember my stats but it was more than 600/500 (Ironworks + Luminous like Jillian).
