Weaponskill Animations - MoCap versus Artifical

I know that the majority of animations (if not all) are MoCap'd -- While they can produce nice effects, are there any plans to do Artificially designed ones, which I think XI's might be? (I'm not sure if for example down the road MoCap was introduced when the technology became common place.)

    For Reference.

Will we get more..I don't know the word for it, animation styles that seem like the character is more "into" doing their weaponskill in the upcoming changes?

I think the biggest positive to switching to Artificial animations for certain skill effect is you can do quite a bit more 'fantasy' styled sequencing than with actors, but I know mocap is mostly for fluidity.

What do you guys think is over all better when it comes to animations and want to see done? As we've seen in LA Noire, mocap is definitely a great thing, but pure CG can also be pretty well done.

I want to be able to move.

However, XI's animations look better. If I could get best of both worlds, it would be XI's animations with movement enabled.

Mocap only looks good for smaller, more "believable" movements. The emotes in this game, for example, are wonderful because of the mocap. It also runs in line with L.A. Noire looking fine with it. Also makes more sense when the characters look realistic. When the characters are very stylized it tends to look creepy.

Regular Animation looks best for stuff like flips and high jumps and things that people obviously can't do IRL, as well as more fantasy-ish characters/races.

IIRC I think the devs actually use a combination of both. In the Making of FF14 video it was mentioned that they tweak the mocap for animations so they fit the different races better.

a combination of mocap and artificial it's better i think, anyhow i don't think all actual ws are mo-cap only. I mean, they should have acrobats in their office to mo-cap simian thrash...

For our basic attacks and emotes mocap was better, in xi some auto attacks were awful and it was usually by race, like elvaan >.< But with ws and such I would like artificial so we can have a variation of cool movements. I'm actually glad FF went with not adding voice acting to every cut scene due to the time it would take to pump out new content (looking at you swtor fail, adding voice acting for menial tasks, and most of the population is forced to skip through dialogue to group up with randoms), with mocap its kind of the same thing, while mocap is nice and its more realistic, if it hinders new ws or new motions, it should be ok to give us some nice artificial ones to fulfill our needs.

I think the more realistic the game the more generated animations look silly.

Not to mention the fight scienes in advent children look really really jouvinile al la dbz.

Devil May Cry 3 and 4's action sequences were all mocapped and they looked absolutely fucking fantastic. The characters are also extremely stylized as well and they do over the top ridiculous things. I think there just needs to be a dev team capable of combining the two, as such a thing has been proven possible in many other games.

I love the realistic moves we have now. When it comes to Dragoon or Pugilist, I could see some animation moves come into play, but the ones we have now (chaos thrust, rage of halone, the PUG one) look great and they should continue them.

I like what we have now myself but, I expect to see some more kaboom and bang for higher levels and job abilities. Especially for magic animations.

I like the mocap myself, the high-level ws look really good.
