Why do my clothes suddenly fit?

My clothes suddenly fully fit at the rank and rank alone?

I don't seem to grow into my clothes, only at the level, optimum or required are the full effects granted to me. It feels strange.

Losing my argument perhaps, to start with a feeling. Shouldn't you gain greater affinity with each piece of clothing as you approach it's rank and gain more of it's abilities. XIV's simulated nature does not operate like you would expect in nature.

After all there are many items that require that base level to even equip, maybe I've been confused by the Optimal Rank idea.

Secondary benefits (I think of the lower half of each items stats as this) don't kick in until the item's rank is fully reached, I haven't looked how the top half stats are granted but they must slowly be accrued as you get closer... please they must still be.

This was easier when we all started sure, and for the dev's perhaps too easy, the benefits of being a few ranks within an items range seemed to flow thru for all stats early on, can't precisely remember when it changed so noticeably 1.17 or so perhaps?

I remember crafting making me rage quit around that time, so many more failures. Inventory just gone in a flash of, well, not even smoke! Then the 1.19 obsolete items list ouch so much work all undone, but back to the clothes fit and feel...

Nature, is my argument for all of the benefits of an item to accrue somehow in line with acquiring the rank of the item.... hmm maybe a mini case study for comarison.

Life jackets! Lets imagine a 20 year old and a 5 year old. The jacket will keep them both afloat sure, but what about those extras a life jacket comes with, like The Whistle. Yeah, ours have em, help you to be heard by rescuers. This is a more secondary function of the life-jacket I argue. The 20 year old that fills their lungs and blows hard on that whistle might be heard for kilometers, a 5 year old can for sure blow the whistle, but will the sound travel as far?

Some lifejackets have lights even, Shine and flash your rescuers, easier for the older more experienced individual to control. But the younger floater, will they be able to train the light upon oncoming ships or planes quite as well? Will being a few years older help them to keep on target with the light, or to blow that whistle harder and be heard from farther?

I argue Yes.

I would like all benefits to accrue as you approach rank, if it was too easy before, gimp it sure.. *groan* but give me some of those secondary benefits please. It will feel more natural.

I'm in a borderline interpretation mode:

Tagging with Dev1157: If below an item's required level or not the favored class, the attributes will be reduced and bonus attributes will have no effect.

The bonus attributes being things such as the HP+, MP+, Flametongue effect, etc ~ the lower half of the stats.

think of the clothing like a snowboard, certain boards are for beginners and some are for advanced riders. it has to do with the stiffness and responsiveness. FFxiv clothing must be like that

The reason the equipment system is the way it is was because of a lot of people crying about vanity outfits. Instead of simply making every piece of armor have a level and class requirement, some pieces of equipment have looser restrictions so that people can wear something for looks. If this wasn't an issue then you'd be hard set into what you can and cannot wear just like any other MMO.
